  1. The mechanical bits are identical to a 4wd F150. You need a 4wd transmission, a transfer case, front and rear driveshafts, and the front axle bits: differential, swing arms, driveshafts, and hubs. And I've just been through all of that on Dad's truck. The only area I'm not sure of is the leaf spring suspension. The 2wd F250's have coils and the 4wd's have leafs, if I understand correctly. And I don't know if the spring hangers bolt to the frame in the pre-drilled holes or if you have to drill them. Otherwise, it is straightforward. But let's see what others say.
  2. I'm a pro at eye drops as I'm currently doing 8/day for Janey. And I'd gladly do yours, Ray, as long as they come from that little island in the Gulf.
  3. Yes, that's a vacuum port. But, closer to the distributor there's a water passage that goes between the heads. And at the very back of the intake there's another water passage. If either of those have a plug in them pull it and see what comes out.
  4. Why not organize things (especially parts) the way other Ford parts websites are organized? You can't actually find many parts, but look at the categories on https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/shop-parts https://www.tascaparts.com/auto-parts/1984/ford/f-150/xlt-trim/5-0l-v8-gas-engine https://www.rockauto.com/ https://shop.broncograveyard.com/1980-96-Ford-Truck_Bronco/departments/20/ (the worst of the bunch) http://www.fordpartsgiant.com/ My intent has been to use the categories from the Master Parts Catalog. I'd looked at several other sites but every one differed so I chose the MPC. But, I've not stayed with it in every case. One of the reasons I've not stayed with it is that we have many things that aren't included in the MPC. Like literature. Fasteners - yes, the MPC has them, but scattered willy nilly through the catalog. EVTM's. How-to's like Voltage Drop Testing. And on and on. So I don't want to change the main structure. But there are issues that need to be sorted. Things that are in what seem to be illogical places and we need a way to think through where the be more easily found. Given that, I'm open to suggestions for tweaks to the layout. If you find things in a place that doesn't make sense, at least to you, tell me - probably via the Website & Forum Suggestion Box.
  5. Thanks, Bill. Even if you don't find one I appreciate the effort.
  6. Oh no! How did he melt the bearing onto the shaft? Did it hurt the shaft?
  7. If you found the marks, then find TDC with the procedure I described before and then position the engine on TDC. Get a piece of wire, like a coat hanger, and fashion a pointer. Put the back end of the pointer under a bolt and bend the wire until it points at TDC on the balancer. Now you have a timing pointer.
  8. Congrat's! You are going to have fun. And working with Levi will be a treat.
  9. The book says all 81 - 85 351W's used E3AZ 6023-A. So the '84 should have what the '85 had. Can you find TDC accurately? One way to do that is with a piston stop. You turn the engine, gently, until the stop, which protrudes into the cylinder via a spark plug hole, hits the top of the piston and stops rotation. Mark the balancer along the edge of the timing pointer. Then turn back the other way, and mark the balancer where it stops. Exactly 1/2 way between the marks is TDC. That way you can use the pointer you have.
  10. You are really making progress, Shaun.
  11. I was saying the Caramel color was only used in '80. Can you find those pieces in your catalog? Am I missing something?
  12. I sent a text to John and hope he'll come Thursday or Friday. I don't know what tools he will have or want to use, but he is a wizard on metal working.
  13. Mark - Probably. It looks like it is into that crossover coolant passage. And, I would expect that to be 3/8" NPT. If you break it loose you should see coolant start to seep out, and then you'll have to lower the coolant level.
  14. Well that's good to know. It's not a big deal...aftermarket replacements are inexpensive. I just remember seeing in the LMC catalog that they changed several times from 1980-1996. It seems odd since the engine block didn't change much, nor did that part of the frame...not that I'm aware of at least. In the Bullnose era, they show one set for 80-84, and then a different set for 85-88. However, I know from experience that the LMC listings have been wrong before... We have this table here: Exterior/Frames/Engine Perches. (Boy do we need someone to rationalize this place!)
  15. Cory - I think so. Here's the one from the advert (do you say "ad" or "advert" in Canada?), cropped and significantly lightened. And the pic on the right is my spot for one. The shape looks the same, but I'm supposed to have three screws to hold it on and that one only has places for two. Obviously I can drill the extra hole, and enlarge them as well since the bolts that are in there look bigger. But, does that suggest they are different? And, for $61 to my door, with another engine plate I don't need, I'm not ready to buy it on the chance. But, I think it may be it. Thanks.
  16. David - I'm pretty sure that's the one I have from a small block, and it is too large. But thanks anyway.
  17. That could be painful, Ray. Don't sit down. Anyway, it goes here:
  18. How's this: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Want-To-Buy-f25876.html?
  19. I'm looking for the inspection cover that goes on the engine plate and gives access to the torque converter bolts on an M-block or 460 equipped with an auto tranny.
