  1. The choke and the idle speed are two different things. I mentioned the choke and it seemed like your response was that you'd adjust the idle speed. But maybe I misunderstood. Anyway, you may need to adjust both of them. And that resource tells you how. That's from Ford's factory shop manual, so is what the dealer's techs worked from. While it is probably quite accurate it may assume a level of knowledge that not everyone has.
  2. Welcome back! (I'd say "Kotter" but you might not understand. ) It has cooled off a bit here as well. And it is WET! We are under a flood watch right now. Anyway, glad you are still around.
  3. Interesting question, David. Ray and I saw that happening on his '86, but it had the electric fuel pumps and a return system and the valve was returning to the wrong tank. However, Jim has a mechanical pump..... Jim - Do you have a return? As in the hot-fuel handling setup? I didn't think the hot fuel handling system was used with a mechanical pump, but maybe you added the mechanical pump and left the hot-fuel system?
  4. Well, the MPC is a bit vague there. The 18549 part number is for the base heater as 19980 is for A/C. But it does say it is "From 3/82". And the mate to that is E0TZ 18549-A because it is "Before 3/82". So I think it gets down to when your truck was built. Before or after 3/82?
  5. Consider these charts: https://supermotors.net/getfile/739630/thumbnail/fuelcapacity925.jpg Steve - You have lots of good info, but I don't understand the layout of your stuff. And while I may be the only one that understands the layout here, it does seem logical to me. In this case the information from Ford's Master Parts Catalog is at Documentation/Fuel Systems/Fuel System Part #'s/Fuel Tanks. And it should be easy for anyone to answer the question about fuel tank capacities.
  6. You are now on the map. But, you may not have understood what I was saying. There's a choke on the carb that is used to enrichen the air/fuel mix when the engine is cold. And what you described sounds like a lack of choke, a problem that shows up only when the engine is cold. So while the idle speed may be low and need to be corrected, it probably isn't the problem that is causing the engine to be hard to start when cold.
  7. That's much better. But I'm not sure I want to do it. I'm just thinking about it. Your thoughts?
  8. Headed into T-town on Tuesday and may just have to swing by HF and pick up one of those steps. I've been using a wooden bar stool that is too tall and has seen better days. This thing may be just what is needed. As for tool boxes, I have an HF box under my lathe. It is MUCH stronger than the original stand, and holds all the tooling to boot. However it is probably 10 years old, so HF may well have changed from that line or added another one. But back then the story was that HF bought the rights to an old Snap-On line of boxes and was having them made in China. And, I have HF bearing splitters. They are massive. And they work.
  9. I'm not sure I understand where the fuel economy bit came from. But I would clean the connector. As for the ECT, I've heard that fixing one thing on those shows up others. I don't know why as you'd think they'd all be listed, but I've heard that doesn't always happen.
  10. Glad the driveshaft wasn't hurt. And the pic is good, he looks like he's ready to go. Which is good since you have a Cheby and will need to tow it.
  11. I like it!!! The first pic looks like it came from a sales brochure. That's a really, REALLY nice truck. But as you said, a 302 is unusual in an F250. In fact the literature says it was only available in the light-duty one, meaning with a GVWR below 8500 lbs. So while that truck is pretty, it wouldn't be my pick for doing much towing.
  12. You said you went with '86 mechanical pump senders. Does that mean you either have a mechanical pump or a frame-mounted electric pump. If so I'll guess that you have a bad hose that's leaking at times, perhaps as the body twists, and allowing air into the system and killing the vacuum the pump is creating. But yours should have the plastic hose, and they don't seem to age. Maybe a connection is leaking or loose?
  13. I've found parts at Clips & Fasteners in the past, as well as at Auveco. But for the last few fasteners I've not been able to find them anywhere. So if y'all find sources for specific fasteners that I've not found, please let me know. (I know I said that if you find sources please let me know, but I meant for specific fasteners. )
  14. Welcome! Glad you found us. I'm sure we can help. SE NC? We have a member's map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and I'd be happy to add you if I knew what town you are in. On the bed, no you can't easily put a different length bed on. So if you have the short bed you need to look for another short bed. (I'm sure it is possible to put a longer bed on a short frame, but it wouldn't be right nor easy.) On having to pump a lot to get it to run, that sounds like the choke isn't coming on enough. The instructions for setting the choke are included here: Documentation/Fuel Systems/Carburetors, Chokes, & EFI/Carter YF & YFA 1BBL Carbs.
  15. It is my name in the URL, which now seems ostentatious as well as vague. So I'm considering a URL change if and when we relo the website, one that tells people what the site is about. As for getting your money back, half of it if you are lucky. So the less you put in the less you'll lose.
  16. Campbell (?) is so pretty! I really liked having her here. Please tell her hello for me. And it was so good to meet many of you that I've talked with on-line but hadn't met. I hope next year and the years after will bring more and more of you this way.
  17. Scott - How do you get the right part number? I've tried on Disco's site to find a couple of them, but no dice.
  18. Randy - You are more than welcome. So YOU are Florida Man? Seriously though, we built this, not me. You are a big part of it, and I certainly appreciate your help.
  19. I don't "know", but I'd think that the pickup tube should be almost to the bottom of the tank. Otherwise the gas at the bottom of the tank can't be used. And while that means you'll also potentially suck up some sediment, that's what the fuel filter is for.
  20. Thanks. If you guys find sources on any of these please let me know so I can update the pages.
  21. I have little totes full of fasteners, and they are in baggies telling from whence they came. As for a source, I have found some at AuVeCo. But today's screws they didn't have.
  22. I have a psychological aversion to paying THAT MUCH for anything that CAN work, but is intentionally programmed NOT to work because its maker wants to extort extra $$$ from me each time I use what I've already paid for. That, and the fact that I like being able to grab junkyard parts whenever I need them (without going thru all that hassle), will keep my vehicles running the way Ford programmed them to for a LONG time to come. What a nightmare! That's another reason I won't be investing in that system. I don't want to spend that much time learning how to use the tool. I've been helping a local shop recently that specializes in Land Rover repairs, and there were 2 problem-children (both 2016 RRSports) that required that kind of assistance from both an out-of-state, and an overseas diagnostician. Fortunately, the equipment supplier also supplies that assistance free (with the yearly subscription - no extra for each instance). Because this shop had an older scanner that doesn't support pass-through programming (the overseas guy had to write code into several ECMs for about 10 hours over a few days for ONE of these abominations), they overnighted us the newer scanner as a loaner. Turns out, we identified an error in the factory (Land Rover) software, so it's going back through the chain before more vehicles are affected. (Or is it "INfected"?) The point being - I don't want to spend that kind of time & effort on a 30-year-old $2K truck. I really didn't want to on those 3-year-old $50K vehicles, either. I'm doing the same thing as Bill. Following directly in his footsteps. And it is still a huge learning curve. But, to pass down to my kids and grands something that can be maintained and something they can drive anywhere will be worth it.
  23. For that price I'd certainly have it checked out after reading that Carfax.
