  1. Wow! That is REALLY well done! Don't think I'd have thought of using a soldering pen to cut out holes, but that certainly is a good way to go. Thanks for the tip. I'm jealous of all the progress you are making, but I'm learning while you do it, so I'll ride along vicariously and read.
  2. Tywrap/paper clip - same test, just don't pull the tywrap very tight. Or, he could put the machine screw and nut in there and make them mechanical. He'll see what we mean. I have a 4180C on the shelf, but I have no idea if it is good. Took it off a non-running 351HO, so I doubt the jetting would be right for a 400. However, the stock Eddy 600 4106 I put on Big Blue as a test did great, so maybe it would. But it'd have to be rebuilt. Your AVS is the better choice. Anyway, hope you can get the baseline and then test the two carbs.
  3. What's the distance between the spring perches as opposed to the F-Series? Do you have to relo them? And is the track/overall width the same?
  4. Yeah, I was pleased with that. I'm really hoping to hit 20mpg highway with it, although I won't be getting into mpg and AFR tuning until spring 2020. I was on the highway a little bit yesterday afternoon (drove out to the junkyard and back...lol) and the truck runs pretty nicely at 2000 RPM and almost 70MPH. That seems to be a nice highway speed at a decent RPM. Maybe I'd end up at 1900 RPM and 65-ish MPG, not sure. I'll try to find the sweet spot where I can get the best MPG with it. As for the fuel gauge, I am so happy now that it working correctly (or, better than it was at least). I'm going to keep watching my fill ups until I get it visually calibrated where there's a couple gallons left in it. That will get me approximately 250 mile range per tank, and I'll be happy with that too. The only downside to all this, and it's nothing to do with this thread, is that the 302 is still a little bit of a dog at 1900-2000 RPM. It doesn't seem to light up until somewhere around 2300-2400 RPM. Between the 5spd and the 3.08 rear end, the final drive ratio is pretty tall. It just feels like it would roll into the power band much nicer if I was already cruising at, lets say 2300 RPM instead of 1900-2000. Maybe I need a 3.25 geared diff, I dunno. Ford did build these trucks with this same 5spd and the same 3.08 diff, so what I have here is not an unusual combination. It always goes back to what I call my "351 Envy". Anyway, more to come on this next year when I finally get into fine tuning this thing. That's apparently just a bit too much cam for good torque on a 302 below 2K. But if you use 5th for just cruising it should return good MPG, and you can drop to 4th for "fun". I'll bet it sounds sweet!
  5. That's cool! But I'd have to play with it when the grands come, so....
  6. For that price you can't even think about making it. Good find.
  7. Chris - I doubt you can get enough vacuum drop in neutral to get the secondaries to come in, if that's what you are trying to do. With no load on the engine the vacuum won't go into the region needed to overcome the spring and open the secondaries. There's a test using a paper clip to test how far the secondaries open under load. Here's one discussion thereof: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c1-and-c2-corvettes/760737-what-is-and-how-do-you-do-the-paper-clip-test-for-holley-s.html. And Jim is correct, mechanical secondaries aren't what you want in a truck. You'll create a big bog when you give it too much throttle and the RPM isn't up there yet. Plus, if you think you have bad MPG now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Been there, done that, and turned the back bumper blue while I watched the fuel gauge move opposite to the tach. Work up a deal with Jim for that 650 AVS. At least it'll determine if the carb is the problem. At best, you'll see a noticeable MPG improvement and you can bring the truck back for the show next year. Jim - I know you aren't about MPG, but it would be interesting to see what difference there is between the two carbs. Paul - Good luck in the autocross today. I really loved driving my Miata, so you'll have to report back on how much fun you have.
  8. Sent you an email. We don't have a PM facility on here. Anyway, here's the code that goes in the embed widget. Just a simple iframe. This is for the Bronco Standard interior: But I tweak it to have width="100%" and height="688" for these illustrations.
  9. Can you either email me the stuff to embed or actually put it on here?
  10. Thanks, man, the garage was a summer project between jobs 2 years ago by now. I haven't pursued the winch mountings more than getting a good friend who's good at fabricating stuff to come over and look at everything and think about it. And I've got a new job that sometimes has me working weird hours, so.... As for what I did to my truck recently, I'm in the midst of replacing the side tank; I got one of those painted ones off of Rock Auto because I've had bad luck with Spectra products and don't feel like repeating that any more. But I'm running it off of the rear tank, and I changed the fuel filter at the carburetor (again). Then, figured out the rear secondaries aren't opening... no wonder it won't rev real high... my father says to convert them to mechanical because vacuum-operated secondaries have never been reliable (he says). I think I'll begin with investigating the vacuum actuator. Holley Truck Avenger 670 cfm. Chris - There's a diaphragm in the secondary system. If it split or leaks you'll have problems. Is that why you can't get more than 2500 R's?
  11. Thanks. That's easier than having to catch something like POR15 while it is still soft. Let us know how it goes, please. The Rust Reformer lays down really nice. Almost like a heavy primer. Using auto enamel on top of that with no issues so far. Lots more cleaning and painting today. Dave - Good to know. Northern Tool is right on 71st St close to the mall where we'll be on Tuesday, and HF is up near 21st St. I'll hit Northern and it may save me a trip. Fords4life - That's really looking good. Glad to know that it works that well.
  12. I'm in no hurry whatsoever. And let me know what you want for them. Sorry your '81 is up the spout. Hope you get it fixed this weekend.
  13. Ok, let me work through this: You said "if they give you the ability to upload arbitrary HTML and PDF files".... Weebly does allow HTML via an "embed" widget. As for pdf's, there are three approaches: 1. Embed using an iframe 2. Use the Scribd widget 3. Use another widget like the one from Powr I know that Google hasn't crawled any of the docs embedded using an iframe or Scribd I don't understand "root of your website". Do you mean at the level of Bullnose Forum, Documentation, and About?
  14. Not sure what you mean by that. Please explain. But I do have Google tracking things on the site with Analytics and Console. And Weebly does block some in the robots file. They explained why to me once upon a time, but I've forgotten. Made sense then though.
  15. I'm sorry to see that someone got banned on FSB. I think I've only done that once on here and it was because a guy was just messing with people, posting the same impossible scenario on multiple forums and not responding to other's replies. I hope I don't have to do more of it. My process is to confer with the other admin's to see what they think as I don't want this to be a unilateral decision. If we are in agreement I'll send an email behind the scenes to the person and point out the problem. I'll explain that I expect it to cease, and depending on the situation would expect that person to apologize if it was rudeness or some such against another member. Basically, that's Strike One. If it happens again there will be another email informing the person that it was Strike Two. On Strike Three that person will be banned. But that will really make me sad if I have to do it.
  16. Chris - I think we are in agreement. But let me take it a step more: I believe it has to do with Google not knowing who has permission to access the file, and since they don't know they don't bother to index it since they don't want to show search results to someone that cannot access them. It looks to me like there's a way around that, and that is to make the files accessible to anyone on the web. But in doing that they'll be found outside of the website as well as maybe inside. I don't want the traffic to go around the website, so I've set them up as accessible to anyone with the link. So you may be correct that hosting the files on the same place that hosts the site may work. But we need to figure that out 'cause a whole bunch of our content isn't being found.
  17. We do have stink bugs, so maybe he came from here. But I don't like them, so glad you took him away.
  18. Jonathan - I don't think "restoration" is quite the right term. I'm going with "transformation", and I'll leave the patina that's on him. So used F350 badges might fit right in. I'm thinking "well used" on the outside and "effectively new" underneath is about right.
  19. Glad you found him and were finally able to evict him. But, what is he? And did he come from Georgia?
  20. At first blush it seems like a steal at $6K. But then you read "rust rust and more rust" and it becomes a bit more questionable. Still, ......
  21. Well done! I think that's going to be "just right". And, your MPG is excellent, especially for the around-town situation.
  22. Not to take away from the previous question, which really does need to be answered, but I have "purchased" the URL bullnosebible.com. So some day we'll use that instead of garysgaragemahal.com. I'm still thinking that we are going to have to move to Wordpress. Another Weebly staff member has concurred that our site has outgrown them, and we are no where near "done". So I've been doing a lot of reading, both about Wordpress itself as well as hosting sites. Oddly enough, looking at the rate structures on one hosting site we are already about to top out the max # of visits/month that their base rate allows. That's 20k/month, and in the last 30 days according to Weebly we've had 18.3K, which is up 7% over the previous 30 day period. So the site is more of a presence than I thought.
  23. Sorry to see that the clips don't fit well. Is there any chance they aren't thick enough? You are using aftermarket clips, right? But, it sure is looking good!
  24. Windshield trim clips are shown here on the Windshield Trim tab: Documentation/Exterior/Exterior Trim & Moulding.
