  1. Me? Scope creep? Where would I be without it? Done maybe?
  2. Those things are HEAVY! Glad he has a way to hoist it.
  3. Cool! But how big is the guy that's gonna pick it up? Please give us a report when he gets it installed on how well it brakes and how he likes the 3.73 gears.
  4. I think I'd try the DS-II box. They work quite well, and it sure does act like a heat-related issue.
  5. Brandon - Don't miss that you can download that file.
  6. What a good way to end your trip! And Lesley wants to go back next year! That says bunches. I think this trail, or combo thereof, might be the perfect warm up to Moab. By then my son should have the manual tranny figured out, assuming he flies here and drives with me, and then both of us can get used to driving on the rough stuff, slowly. As for the upgrades, what tires would you be considering? And how do you fix the radius arm brackets - that I see hanging down in the breeze?
  7. I have the 1984 EVTM, but don't have it on-line. So I'll include the pages here 'cause there were some changes along the way and I want to make sure you have the right wiring diagrams.
  8. Rooster - I love stories where you still have your original truck. And, I love stories where people have been together that long. Takes commitment. Janey and I just celebrated our 50th. Better yet are stories about church. Glad you and your truck are here.
  9. We are thinking alike. I'm changing to the later tray, and I think there's a chance of getting two of them in since I'll also be running a 3G alternator, which won't need a regulator on the fender. So maybe. But if not then I can contact them to see if I can get the trays themselves. Plus, placing both batteries there would simplify the wiring as there's no need for the long yellow feed across the firewall to the relay and then forward to the battery. Put the relay by the two batteries.
  10. Bill - I sent Brandon a link to this thread, so hopefully he'll see your helpful response soon.
  11. Bob - I found a Wrangler Power Products kit for dual batteries, but it is a bit pricey at $630. I plan to upgrade to the later style battery carrier and may see if I can figure out how to use two of them side-by-side. But I'll keep the other in mind. Thanks. Glad to know the biker wasn't hurt. (I'm remembering European Vacation right now.) And, glad to know that it wasn't crowded but also that there were a few others - just in case. I'd wondered about the temps at that time of year. But, having been on Powell at roughly the same time a few years ago I kinda knew. However, others might not know about the temps there, nor how dry it is. We always packed a rather large cooler for our outings in the SeaRay - and frequently found our way to Dangling Rope Marina and its ice cream.
  12. Brandon/Bruno2 sent me a text message yesterday asking questions about the PCM on the 1997 F250 that his son, Kris/Bruno2son, has. Apparently it shuts off at the least opportune times, and may not be willing to start for an hour, or a day, or a week. So I agreed to find the '96 EVTM and scan in the pages for the diesel that are in it. As it turns out there's only one diesel listed in it - a 7.3L DI w/a turbo. So I scanned those pages in. But, since I don't know where to put them in the Documentation part of the site I'll put them here. Hope they help.
  13. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Offy-Offenhauser-Ford-240-300-c-i-6-cylinder-manifold-low-end-torque-truck/293044040013?epid=810176503&hash=item443ac9314d:g:GVEAAOSw3ZtaR-Ls Cool! Did I sleep through a discussion of that some time ago?
  14. Missed the square headlights. No, I want Bullnose, preferably 1981 w/a 351M. (Which will become a 400.)
  15. To whom is that addressed? To post videos they must be hosted some place on the internet. The easiest way to do that is to put them on Youtube. Then you click the Share button on Youtube and get the "embed" code, which will look something like this: And then click the Message Is In HTML Format box above the Quote button, and paste the code in your post.
  16. Bill I think you are missing several things. First, they didn't do what I asked, and what they agreed to do, meaning convert the whole of the Engine & Exhaust sections, which make up 20 pages. Instead they converted 9 pages into 9 posts. Posts, as in blog posts. Not pages. Second, of the 9 they did none of them came over intact. Here's a side-by-side of the lower portion of the 351M And 400 original on the left and their's on the right. Overlooking the fact that their page isn't nearly as wide as the original, which is a setting on their website, notice to complete lack of the tabs, each of which holds a lot of documentation. At least the WPBeginner conversion had the tabs, although no content was in them. But the CMS2CMS conversion doesn't even have the tabs.
  17. "WOW!" is a really good summary! It is a great payoff for the end of the trail! Don't worry about asking all the questions you want here. They aren't interruptions, they're enhancements! I have a receiver-mount winch that I can put on either the front or back. But both times I winched on this trail I left it on the front (which is where it has to ride since I have more rear overhang than front overhang, and I can't swing the spare tire closed when the winch is in the rear). The first time I winched I was trying to get up that ledge and I needed to winch forward to get up. The second time I really just wanted to roll a little to pop the clutch and shift the flywheel to a less worn tooth for the starter. But I was pointed downhill so I couldn't roll backward, and there was a bump in front of one front tire that I couldn't push it over so I couldn't roll forward. So I just winched it forward (down hill) without pushing in the clutch. I only moved it about a foot, but that was plenty to get to a fresh tooth on the ring gear. And no, I only have one battery. Generally I keep the engine running while winching, so even with an old gen alternator (~50 amps?) I won't get in trouble unless it's a pretty long pull. And I'd definitely upgrade the alternator before I'd add a second battery. I run 15 psi off-road (with 33/10.50x15 load range C tires). Lower would be better, both to smooth out the road and to better grip the ledges. But I'm conservative and don't want to lose a bead. I probably still should drop to about 12 or so though. I didn't suggest that, she did! Which shocked me, but I was willing to sit next to her for the picture (and yes, I sat on the outside, I couldn't have her showing me up!). That picture is now the desktop picture on my computer at work! I'm right around 70:1. Yes, your crawl ratio is low enough. Lower might be better at times (it's nice to be able to go SLOW sometimes) but that 460 will lug down better than my 302, so you can ride the brake a bit and slow it down when you need to. And by the way, a hand throttle is a nice addition to low gearing and a manual trans. Some people like the kind that return to idle when you let go (it helps when you want that third foot on the pedals). But I like one that stays where I put it. That way I can set the idle up for winching, or if I need a little more throttle to keep the 302 from stalling, or if I just want to go a little faster, but not to the next gear. It's smoother than trying to hold a foot-feed steady while bouncing over rocks, and jerking on and off the throttle is pretty harsh in a really low gear. Yes, that view is a worthwhile payoff for sticking with the trail. On the winching, I misunderstood. I thought you winched backward, but "down" was forward. I like the receiver-mounted idea, but I have the Warn bumper I'd really like to use as it is a classic. However, I could make a receiver mount for the winch as it only takes pulling 4 bolts and unplugging the power cable to have it off, and then I could bolt it to the mount and use it in the rear. However, I'd also need to lengthen my "extension cable" to get power to the rear. Maybe I'll just not have to winch backward. Hand throttle! Hadn't thought of that. I've been planning on using the PTO function on the EEC-V system to raise the idle speed so the alternator will throw more while winching. I wonder if that would bring the idle up enough to suffice? I don't know the specs on that though. Speaking of batteries, I saw a FB post yesterday where a guy has a '97 460 in his '86 F350, and the driver's side of the engine compartment was pretty full. I'm a little concerned about being able to get my aux battery in. Anyway, I can understand using that pic on your computer. I'd love to show my kids a pic like that of Janey and I - but she'd be the one on the outside!
  18. I'm not sure how you are doing it, but you should be able to do it by clicking on his "handle", the Steve83 bit, and clicking on Send Email to Steve83.
  19. Interesting! (No, I'm NOT going to quote Arte Johnson.) Yes, I've seen lots of oil-filled coils on their sides over the years. Never have seen them leak. But I think your test proves one thing - you don't have a coil problem. So, what are you treating the knuckles with?
  20. They are 2 discrete and separate operations with different results from my standpoint as a Linux sysadmin, Gary. ;) I worked as a WordPress sysadmin for ~3 years at the company that owns the Denver Post (~350 blogs hosted on 2 Linux clusters) and so that's the perspective I'm looking at your new site from. Right now it's a Parked godaddy site, which means it's still in limbo, usually because the contracts aren't finished yet. Shocking! OK, that sounds good. Bluehost has been around for a long time and has a decent reputation at what they do. Which means (www.)garysgaragemahal.com - or something standing in its place - will necessarily need to be alive so it can redirect users (assuming http 301 Redirect) to the new site. Is this what you're wanting to do? If so, why? In all cases, *somebody* has to do your DNS. Having content hosted "in the cloud" isn't as good from an SEO perspective as having them hosted locally. Many search engine robots won't cross DNS boundaries when indexing a site. I thought I explained that already. I'd try not to. See above. Yeah, there are several backup solutions, Bluehost might even be able to help you with that. Not trying to be rude or impolite, I'm just looking at it from a different perspective is all. :) As for window width, yeah. :) There might be several places you have to adjust things but much of it is fairly simple to do. ~~ I'm not going to get back to my truck for a while it seems, gonna be spending a lot of time working before I head to Chicago for my 40th HS reunion. My sister is going with me, and she's getting us into the house we grew up in. It's all fairly nostalgic, TBH. EDIT: If you send me a u/p I'd be glad to look around. :) Chris - Thanks for the response. Below are a couple of short answers before I get into today's status. But first, why not start a thread on your truck? Otherwise it is mixed in with the other WHYDTYTT comments. URL: The "why" is that I think bullnosebible is a lot more descriptive of what we have than garysgaragemahal. I don't know how all the redirect things will work, although there are plug-ins to do that. But we will worry about that down the road. Content Hosting: I understand the advantages of hosting on the site vs on the cloud. But we can't kill the response time in an effort to get Google to find the content. So we will have to do some testing. And if the Google integration thing both gets it found by Google AND solves the response issue then we will have to consider it. Ok, now for the status, findings, etc. As far as I can tell there are two possible ways to get a Weebly site migrated to Wordpress - WPBeginner, which is free if you use one of their partner providers, and CMS2CMS, which costs $300. Let's start with the latter, CMS2CMS: Poo. Junk. Etc. I've had absolutely nothing but a horrible experience in trying to communicate with them. But I was willing to endure that up front if the product was acceptable. Yes, our initial effort to migrate 10 pages using their tool was abysmal, but they offered to try 20 pages done by their "pro's". So I gave them links to each page in the Engine section. You be the judge: https://demo.cms2cms.com/wordpress-5d9c7f32ad061/ But the lady at WPBeginner has been excellent to work with. However, she doesn't seem to think they can do any better of a migration than what we got using their tool. And as previously said, the words came through but the tabs didn't. And many of our pages use tabs. So lots and LOTS of rebuilding will need to be done. I've been trying to clean the WPBeginner site up while I watch the MLB playoffs, and I'm on Page 19 of 28. So I hope to be "done" with the cleanup that will allow the nav menu to work in a couple of days, at which point I'll give y'all a URL so you can go look. But right now it is a real mess, and y'all seeing that wouldn't serve any purpose. So it looks like the way to migrate the site is to use the results from the WPBeginner tool and go through it page by page and make it right. That's a HUGE undertaking, but at this point in time I think it needs to be done. I've gotten to a point on the Weebly site that I loathe adding pages because it is so onerous. Given that, I think the plan that is emerging from the fog in my brain is to get what we have cleaned up so the nav menu works, and then take a section and make it right. That'll give me a much better understanding of how much effort it'll be to do the whole thing, and then a decision can be made.
  21. Wow!!! Just WOW! The views are beautiful. Awe inspiring. I want to go! So many questions, many of which I'll forget. But, how did you winch down? Does your winch detach from the front and attach to the rear? I think you told me that, but I forgot. And, do you have two batteries? Do you run the same tire pressure in all situations off road? Like on that rough road vs the ledges? I think Lesley and I think alike - no way do I want to be hanging my legs over that drop off! But she's a trooper. What did you say your crawl ratio is? Big Blue's will be 55.7. And he'll be running 33" tires like yours. Is that low enough to crawl those things with the low-down torque of a 460? Cool!!!
  22. Yes, it seems like the perfect place to use it.
  23. Looking good, Bill! You'll have that thing back under the truck this week?
