  1. Excellent, thank you for the info. I went and looked at your pics as well. So the speaker fit into the recess in the door OK? I guess in that case I can just go with 6.5" speakers if I know they fit OK. I have 6 1/2" Pioneer 3 way speakers in my doors. '80 F150 reg cab
  2. 844rd You can change your odometer over to the new cluster, it's held on by two screws (and the needle up front) the trip odometer is held on to the reg odometer by two screw as well. Just remove your odometer and the trip odometer from the new cluster. Add the trip odometer to the bottom of your odometer and mount them to the faceplate from the new Speedo. Sully
  3. Gary It's actually an acrylic glow in the dark paint I found at WallyWorld when I was hunting small brushes to paint the needles. Instructions said it can be used alone or mixed with light colored acrylics. I guess it's mostly used for light switches, ceiling stars and costumes etc. As for the dash lights in my truck, I bought some UV led's to replace the ones in there originally. I've been experimenting with which ones will be UV and which ones won't. It's an ongoing thing as I'm doing it outside so have wait for darkness to come, just doesn't get dark enough in my shop. I take the truck far enough away from the house & other buildings to check then go back into the light to swap things around. I should have put all the security lights on cutoffs but didn't. My wife wanted security so they're just on dusk to dawn sensors. Hindsight is 20/20, right? lol Sully Oh, I'm using my phone for photos so I have no real options, I get what I get. When I do get the gauges etc glowing right I will add photos, hopefully some good ones. I'm looking at new phones, maybe I'll find a decent one?
  4. Jonathan That is very good info and it has me curious. I would assume (I know "assume" is bad) that the ones that work off the teeth have some type of sensor that does the counting. Is the receiver part of that built into the tach, thereby making them non convertible to gasoline mechanisms? I didn't ever work much on Ford diesel trucks so have no experience with those tach's. The movements in the tach's should be similar if not the same, correct?? Now I'm going to have to get one of them and find out! Sully
  5. Rembrandt I'm hoping that I can come across some non-working ones as well. I'd like to tear some down, build them back into functioning ones. Then, I'll start fixing them for (I hope) less than what's being charged by others. I have two types now, I'll start making a list of components etc and then get to work. Sully
  6. Gary I thought by putting the WTB on the other site I might find a tach easier, maybe there would be more floating 'round over there. Boy, was I wrong!! I put the ad over here and got an amazing response, fantastic. I'm sold on this place even more now. Thanks again Sully
  7. Rembrandt I am swapping but only 'cause the one that came in it quit working. I called every JY I could find in the Richmond area but nobody had '80-'86 trucks. Found one that had 4 trucks of that vintage but none had tach's in them. Finally bought one on eBay that came from California but it was DOA. Finally talked the seller out of a partial refund and started my search again. I've contacted this seller in hopes I can go pick it up, Richmond is only slightly over an hour drive. Sully
  8. Rembrandt I saw all those clusters but chose a different on 'cause the seller was in Richmond, not so far to ship it. The one with the green circuit out back, I almost pulled the trigger until I to saw the sticker & electric Speedo, that changed my mind. Thanks Sully
  9. 1986f150six I was thinking of an aftermarket tach but the only ones I saw on eBay had white face, I'm a basic black kinda man. I never thought to look in Canada, though. I would have thought French writing from Montreal. That seller had a few, couple of 4k & one 3k. I my buy one of those just in case. Thanks Sully
  10. Wow, what a super response. I heard back from a man in Richmond & he accepted my offer on a whole cluster(ebay), I only hope this one works. It doesn't have to come as far this time so fingers crossed. I found a factory tach on eBay as well, $64.95 but the whole cluster only cost me $80. All y'all must have some kind of hotline to eBay & cl since the responses were so fast!! Thanks Sully BTW I put a similar WTB message on FTE over a week ago and still haven't gotten any response. Thanks for the site & forum Gary! Sully
  11. Hi y'all I'm looking to buy a factory tachometer. Tried eBay but the one I bought there had a bad movement. Contacted JY's 'round here but waiting for them to find a truck with a tach, no luck so far. I'd take non-functioning one & try fixing it. Thanks - Sully
  12. Thanks for the suggestion on the larger trucks, never thought about that. Someone mentioned a JY around here that deals only in that type truck, just have to remember who it was & where it was. Or search that internet thing I keep hearing about!
  13. Mr. Scubasteve, hard to read the tach on my phone but it looks like a "Super Tach", is that correct? I'm probably going to have to go that route on my truck & have almost decided on a Sunpro Super Tach. I've been unable to find a factory unit 'round here. I don't need the 8k, as I have a 300cid engine, all numbers above 3.5k will be wasted. With an 8k tach it'll look like my engine isn't turning when I glance down. lol! It's working pretty good for you? Sully
  14. Me thinks fall may be here, had to wear a long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt this morning. I really don't like cold weather!! Anyway, today I came across the "XLT" that was supposed to be on my radio bezel & since I was going to paint the gauge needles, I experimented and painted the XLT as well. I used pearl white metallic on that and metallic fluorescent orange on the needles. After it all dried I went over everything with glow in the dark paint. I was surprised that the glow in the dark actually worked as advertised, invisible in the daylight and glows under UV light. I'll try to get pictures after dark & under UV. The pics I took using a black light looked nothing like what I saw in person. Sully
  15. Nice truck! I love the dog imitating a vulture as well. My dog (who is much bigger) loves jumping up on either the hood, roof or toolbox of my truck. He wants to be sure I never leave without out him! Sully
