  1. ok, I may just geek out on trucks but I by no means geek out on tech. this is going to take more to get used to than the first time. I had gotten into a pattern, or some may say a rut. I'm not giving up, but I may struggle for a while. this is not as intuitive as I had hoped. this forum is all I do on a computer besides order parts or doing parts research.
  2. these are flat out cool. but i must comment. if all are available as lowered and all are available as lifted then why not standard? either way, I need a few. currently I'm either color coding or guessing.😁
  3. two things to inquire on if at all possible. one is how long ago (in miles if possible) and two would be if he had this issue at any time. however, I'm not used to getting answers and rarely do I get true or understandable ones. normally I'm starting blind. I have used many hei and have two in use on trucks that I own. certainly, prove 12v while running at the power going into the dist. it will be the red wire and using a multimeter between the red wire and ground will show potential for the coil. it is necessary for a relay to be used for this dist and any that are working without are lucky and running on lower spark then they could be.
  4. the foundational difference is where and how the engine mounts to the frame. the L6 has engine mounts that are mounted to unique perches which bolt on top of the main cross member whereas the 302 sits further back and mounts to perches riveted to the rear of the cross member and the frame rails. believe it or not, it sits back about two cylinders worth. the line where the engine meets the bell housing is exactly the same. the bell housing will fit perfectly. the flex plate WILL NOT. being that you have an L6 now are you sure of the trans? is it a c5 or an AOD? best to look at the pan which the aod will say "metric" stamped into it. and also, it will have an extra cable going to the carb for throttle valve modulation. another tell is the shift indicator on the cluster. the aod will not show a second gear setting. it will show p,r,n,od,d,l. some models show 1 in lieu of L. as long as you keep the trans then all behind it will not change. if you change the trans then all may be affected. there are still differences to consider if going forward with a v8 swap. there are 302s and there are 5.0s. they are not the same!
  5. unfortunately, Jim is correct. not unfortunate for Jim, the small tab is spot welded to the steel frame. it is best to get another vent window at this point. it's a bit involved to replace depending on skill level of course. repairing will require total disassembly and it is much less down time if another is available to just swap.

  7. certainly, it is more representative of trans temp if measuring immediately out of the trans before headed to the cooling system. and that is what the pump, converter. clutches, bands and all valve body are dealing with. the cooled fluid gets pumped right back into the pool so to speak cooling the whole, yet it is not the operating temp.
  8. I'm very interested in how this turns out. I have a shelf of cams, and I love the idea of regrinds. and knowing a good place to get good work is helpful.
  9. proper balance requires weights opposite the heavy point regardless of whether inside or out. placing weights on the inside only is a compromise and some get lucky but if the tires need extra balancing it may well be beyond a compromise.
  10. I do not recognize this compressor specifically other than it looks similar to a Harrison found on many gm vehicles.

  12. if you used the factory heads then I'm thinking they are the e5 casting. these are good heads and they were used on the 351w also. NOT high flow or high comp heads. just good general use for trucks from that era where hp was practically nonexistent. it was not the focus at the time as emissions was. I like those valve seals with one caveat. there are basically two different sizes. and if by chance the larger seals get installed on the smaller guide bosses it likely they will slip off the boss and ride the valve stem much like the old "umbrella" type seals. in that case they become much less of a seal and only a deterrent.
