  1. The measuring guide picture I posted didn't come from the FSM, it was just something I grabbed from Google after doing a search on the L code spring part number. The FSM's are fairly well detailed for decoding certification labels and VIN's...for whatever reason...who knows. I only have 1984 and 1985, so I can't comment on the other years. So, Gary in your spec when it says it has four leafs... does that count the flat one on the bottom? Mine has four plus that flat one. Maybe they are original? They are awfully firm.. if so, maybe someone added the blocks but I thought they had 2 inch blocks like this from the factory. The rear sits 5 inches higher than the front at the wheel arches though, there is a ton of forward rake.
  2. Hey Ken, I took a look in the 1985 FSM and there was a code L for rear springs in there: Looks like somebody may have swapped in some heavier springs at some point? H9 axle code too I see, factory 3.55 limited slip. Cool. Don't see the factory limited slips all that often. Thanks a bunch Rembrant!
  3. Hi all, Trying to chase down the original springs on my 85 F150 4x4 Flareside with 5.0. The drivers door card has two digits: code B front and code L rear. On the reference chart there is no spring code for "L" though. The truck was built in February of 1985. It currently has 4 leaf +1 rears, and they seem very stiff. There is a 2 inch block (factory?) under them and the rear of the truck does seem to sit quite high. I assumed that maybe someone put some f250 springs on it, the way it rides. I wanted to go back to stock springs so I was looking them up on the chart but again there is no code L. Any ideas?
  4. Gary, I just have to say - the show is great! So many good trucks, and so many entrants by good forum friends. It's good to see everyone with their truck, and the way you laid out the pages makes it easy to navigate with the drop down.... this is excellent. Thanks and so nicely done - Ken
  5. Just to confirm, when you vote - clicking the vote button - nothing seems to "happen" for me like the page or selection disappearing. Assuming the vote is counted though
  6. Thanks for sharing! Just wow. I've reached out to the owner to see if we can get a few more pics of the bed and interior for posterity
  7. That would make sense - creating a black version. One idea might be to start accumulating cruise horn buttons in any condition, and just re-doing them in black. An all over spray with a good trim black, and then re-doing the highlights in silver. It would be a pretty straightforward way to recycle. Selfishly focusing on my truck, I'm imagining then that it came equipped with a burlwood cruise pad to match the dash. Still, as an XL optioned up to have cruise, a small part of me wonders if it could have had this horn slapped on it at the factory. I doubt it. Either way it doesn't match so I'll either go to a burlwood horn button or a rosewood dash I'd be glad to try refinishing some of these in black. Hmmm...
  8. Thanks for the great pic! Interesting... so an XL model normally came with a plain black pad... I ran the Marti on my truck though and it actually did come from the factory with Cruise. Just for reference will list the equipment - The truck came with: Digital Clock Explorer Package C Chrome Grille Ammeter / Oil Pressure Gauges California Emission System (still intact) :) Sliding Rear Window P235/75R15XL Black sidewall tires Tilt Steering Wheel Bright Western Low Mount swing away mirrors Speed Control Air Conditioning AM FM Cassette Stereo Radio Visibility Group (interior courtesy lights, cargo light etc) Dual Electric Horns XL Package Reduced Noise Exhaust System Tinted Glass Convenience Group Guessing that it either had a black horn pad with cruise (does that even exist?) or the burlwood like your photo. Hmm
  9. Thanks for the reply! I think that (my opinion) close is better than nothing at all... if my truck had at least matching pieces, and they were close to original, noone but a true enthusiast would know the wiser Also, if you did either the burlwood OR the rosewood it would be a start! Not rushing you, best wishes on all that you're doing now. The community is out here, and you've found in my opinion the best site to tap for reasonable feedback and straight up folks Regards, Ken
  10. Hey Jim! Thanks for the link! Just catching up with this thread, and I'm sorry I missed your call... great info below all, and Jonathan thanks for the offer. I replied on Perry's thread to see if he's still out there. I have a good burlwood panel that I'd consider sending if I'm pretty sure I can get it back
  11. Hi Perry, checking to see if you have any updates or how the community might help further?
