New member intro

TheWeldingFords
Hi Y'all, I acquired a 1986 f250 5.0 EFI 4x4 manual last November it has 198k miles on it. I'm 19 Years old and this is my first truck that I've truly had be 100% mine. I'm based out in 99212 so you guys can put me on the map.

Welcome!  Glad you joined.

You are now on the map, if 99212 means Spokane.

As for the truck, you have an unusual one.  Yours is probably what I call a "light duty" F250, although Ford just called them an F250.  That's opposed to Big Blue which Ford called an F250HD.

There are several differences:

GVWR: HD starts at 8600 GVWR and goes up, and the lighter duty ones were less than that

Engine: The 302 wasn't put in the F250HD's, just the bigger engines and the 300 six

Suspension: The HD's with 4wd got leaf springs and the TTB's, which is a poor combo as the ride is really stiff.  The light duty 4wd F250's had coil springs and TTB's with a MUCH improved ride.

Wheels: 8-lug on the HD's and 5-lug on the lighter duty ones

I've not seen many of the "light duty" F250's around, so that makes yours unusual.  But in a good way.  Most of us don't need the heavy GVWR of the F250HD's, and we can certainly appreciate the better ride that the coil springs and lighter tires give.

It is a the light duty f250 but that strange part is it has 8 lugs instead of 5.

After I posted I got to wondering about that. Apparently I was WRONG!    On our page at Documentation/Driveline/Wheels & Tires the master parts catalog shows that all F250's got 8-lug wheels.

The other thing that was surprising to me was that when replacing the flywheel and clutch was that it had the 11" clutch instead of the 10" clutch you would find on the under 8500# GVWR.
Where should I start the topic of my journey with this truck?

Go to the main section, which you can do in several ways, including clicking the logo at the top or the "Bullnose Enthusiasts Forum" link at the top or bottom of the page.
