EFI 302 with fuel pump eccentrics?

Rusty_S85
Ive seen it mentioned over the years quite a bit that EFI 302`s still had the fuel pump eccentric mounted to the timing chain.  Since I am going EFI on my 306 build but I want to have the ability to revert if need be due to problems I am thinking of mounting the two piece fuel pump eccentric I have on my comp cams energy double roller.

Question that I am wondering about is, with a two piece eccentric would there be a rattling noise from the front of the motor from this eccentric with the engine running with no fuel pump sitting against it?

You shouldn't hear a thing. When Ford was changing over from carburetors to EFI, we saw a good number of EFI engines with eccentrics installed.

I think it's a sickness...

No, they should not make any noise. Once its running the velocity from engine rotation will have that thing spinning so fast it will essentially orbit.

If a 2 piece design bugs you, they did make 1 piece eccentrics in the 70s engines that are available.

I disassembled a 302 EFI engine from a 1985 F150, and it only had the inner piece of the two piece eccentric assembly installed from the factory. It certainly wouldn't make any noise that way, but I'm sure a 2pc would be fine. A lot of people go with electric fuel pumps for various reasons and leave the eccentrics installed. It's nothing that I'd worry about.
