CB Antenna -Aftermarket Archer

Just wanted to show some photos of an alternative to the hard to find factory tri band antenna (for a photo  of that see Shaun's post in the eBay section from Oct).

Picked this up on eBay last week and installed it today. It's an Archer combo antenna that Radio Shack sold. I don't know how common they are.

It is specified for cars but the pictures looked close enough to give it a try.

It includes the base and gasket like on our trucks but they aren't slanted so you have to rotate a ring to get it lined up right.

It lined up perfectly after a few attempts and I don't think it looks too far from factory. While we would know it's not, I doubt anyone else would.

Haven't decided if I'll keep it on there or not but just wanted to add some photos in case anyone in the future thinks about installing one.

Used to buy plenty of 'stuff' branded by Ratshack.

Optimus, Archer, Microtona and of course Realistic.
-Who wants to listen to something that's impersonating real sound?-
Or is not a real radio in the first place????

So I suppose there's a balun under the cowl?

My geek side had me making my own antennae back in the day.

You make a good point

As for the balun - if I understand what a balun is, then I don't believe so. Just the splitter inside the cab.

I figure the antenna is like most combination items - good at them all but great at none.

Just the guy I have questions for then...once I figure out how to ask them and what I am wanting to accomplish.

Scott - Would it be ok to add your pics and part #'s to the page at Documentation/Accessories/CB Radio?  Or a link to this thread?

Scott - Just added your pics to the page at Documentation/Accessories/CB Radio.  And I also added the pics from the NOS one that was recently on ebay.

See if I need to make any changes, please.  And thanks!

A very GROWING group  of discerning Bullnose Enthusiasts...

I still think y'all FOG members should have your own subforum.
Maybe we can label it "Hipsters" or something?

No, actually I DO love wood beds. (plank -or- plywood)
Tailgate chains are fine too!  👍

I'm the odd man out (of two here) without any Bullnose trucks.

But 'Lil Red has Bull in her genes and is close to 100% under her akward skin.
Maybe she's a trans truck?
IDK.

I have a 1980 with the factory installed CB/Radio option but just missing the mast.  Did this mast actually work with the CB?  Not going to pay 700 buck for eBay NOS, but would de cool to have it working if nothing else for show.

Thanks

Hi Ara!
I'll reply here vs the email

So I can't really say if it works but there's nothing making me think it wouldn't. I only have it hooked up to the stereo for AM/FM and haven't ever tried it with CB, factory or otherwise. The wire and the blue canister for the CB part is tucked between the passenger side duct work and the firewall from the top currently.

I don't know anything technical about CBs but there are several on the forum that do.  I figure there will need to be some SNR tuning inside that blue canister but never got that far.

The Archer antennas show up on eBay fairly often and seems like I recall most are sub-$50.

If you pick one up and hook it into the factory CB, I'd be very interested in how well it works.
