Big Blue's Spec Card

Gary Lewis
Administrator
Some of y'all attend car shows where the vehicles have "cards" that proclaim what they are and what's been done to them. I think it is time that I make one for Big Blue and am asking for your input on what I need to change in the document below.

Basically my idea is that I'll print the pages out, laminate them, and put them on a piece of cardboard that I can prop up on/near the truck. So I've increased the font to as large as I can go, 18 point, and still get everything on two pieces of paper. Will that work?

Thoughts, changes, input, deletions, etc please.

Thanks, guys.  But I'm not looking for kudos, although I do appreciate them.  Instead, I'm looking for upgrades.  What changes need to be made?  Should it be shortened?  Am I missing anything?

For instance, I have nothing in there about the medium-duty radio bezel, but might people want to know about it?  I've said nothing about instrumentation, but might add these points:

INSTRUMENTATION:

Wide-band air/fuel ratio meter

Rocketman-converted voltmeter

Aftermarket voltmeter, oil pressure, & coolant temp gauges

ICVR replaced with true voltage regulator to ensure accurate readings on factory fuel level, coolant temp, and oil pressure gauges

Altimeter

Is that too much?  What needs to change?

Thanks, Dane.  That sounds like a good plan.

Still, if anyone has suggestions I'm all eyes.

I know this is off topic, but I have a couple of questions for some of the items you have added.  Where did you get the Highliner headliner for a crew cab.  LMC has one but it is for standard cab only.  I need one for a supercab.  And what brand of on-board air system did you install?

Big Blue is a regular cab truck.

And the on-board air system is a Harbor Freight Fortress 1.5 HP unit.  Yep, it is 110V AC, which is why I have the 3000 watt inverter.

I took the system apart and put the compressor and controls in the toolbox and the tank under the fender in front of the RR wheel.

Thanks Gary,

Don’t know why, but I had it in my mind that Big Blue was a crew cab.

Another EFI'd 460 on here, Bill's Darth, is a crewcab.  Maybe that's why.

Gary,

The Bullnose Geek in me would like to see some historical stuff, like where the truck was built and what month, what the codes and names of the colors are, etc. I'm a bit of a Certification Label geek, I guess...haha.

When I'm at car shows, people always ask where the truck came from, where it spent most of its life, when did I get it, etc.

Just a thought.

That's a good idea, Cory!  One I'd never have thought of.

I think I can come up with most of that stuff quite easily.  I'll work on that in a bit and then let y'all know when I've updated it so you can take a look.

I had a local upholstery shop in Newport News VA do Darth's. It didn't take him too long and wasn't bad on cost. That was over 10 years ago.

Gary,

Don't get me wrong, I love all the mods and gadgets and stuff, and I certainly appreciate all the time and effort you've put into the truck, but now that they're 40 years old, and older, I really like hearing the history of the truck. Maybe it's just me, I dunno haha. Did it spend the majority of its life on a farm in Arkansas, or did a little old lady in Nebraska only drive it on Sundays!!

Maybe it is more of a local thing for me, since so many classics come from away, but still, lots of them are indeed local, including the 70 year old truck I have now.

Based on my own experience at car shows, just as many people want to know the history of a truck as much as what was done to it (Modded, or restored, or not). The ladies (and some men) ask about the color, and if it is original.

Ok guys, please re-read the spec card.  I've revised it significantly, so it needs to be looked at very closely - again.  Please.

I don't really know much more about the truck's history than what I've added, although I do know that Vernon bought the truck in Georgia and took it to Florida planning to use it to pull a travel trailer all over the US in his retirement.  But because of the shoddy work that was done on it, seemingly at every turn, he finally threw in the towel in January of 2017 and I acquired it.

But I don't really want to get into the  thing, so is what I have sufficient?  What else on the history would be desired?

FYI, I removed the bit about fuselinks replaces with fuses to gain space for the instrumentation section.  And I added the front bumper line as well as the step bars.

Please review!

Thanks, Cory!  You've seen far more of these things than I have, so I appreciate the input.

I'm still going to fiddle with it some, especially re formating as I don't "Suspension" being on the bottom of Page 1 and then the rest of the suspension bits being on Page 2.  But there's no room on Page 2 for even one more line, so I'll see what I can move around to get things grouped together.

If anyone has more suggestions please lay them on me!  I'm all eyes.
