Autolite 2150 carb

86 1/2 Brutus
Hi everybody.  It's me, I'm back  Sorry i've been gone for so long.  Brutus is still running well and the Ranchero is finished.  I'll post some pics soon.    I'm currently using the 2150 carb on the 351W based L7 police interceptor ( 427 cubic inch)  i have the one with 1.21 venturi ( 351 CFM )   I was reading in the documentation that you can increase the flow rate to over 450 cfm.  I know they made them back in the 60's with 1.33 venturi, but how would one go about doing this?  I'm curious.  I'm having issues running to rich and am getting ready to put some smaller jets to see if this will solve my problem.  Later on, i do plan on replaceing everything.  Any ideas on this?

While the venturi themselves are removable, I don't think it will help to put larger ones in as the restriction is going to be with the body of the carb itself.  So the only way I can think of is to find a larger carb and use it.

And, welcome back, Kotter!  We've missed you!

Welcome George!
Merry Christmas to you and Nick.  ðŸŽ„

Are you aware that 2V and 4V carbs are rated at different pressures? (or.. vacuum levels)

The flow difference may be as much as you think.

Merry Christmas everybody.   I'm just going off what i'm reading in the documentation here on the forum.  While you can't change the venturi size, it says you can by polishing it which makes no sense to me.    I'm going to end up going with a 4v, but i cant afford it right now and just want to not keep fouling out my plugs.  I'm going to try smaller jets to see if i can lean it out, but as it stands, i cant drive it, I even added a vacuum leak and have to still turn the screws way far out.   My carb has the 1.21's which is the biggest one, 351 cfm.  Now i do know this, the engine is supposed to have a vv on it so i might be thinking the 2150 is just to small

Ford used 2150's on the 400, so I doubt it is too small for a 427.  In fact, if I remember correctly Bill said his family had a 427 w/a 2150.

As for polishing, if you take away metal so the opening is bigger it'll flow more CFM at the same vacuum level, which is how they test.  But you have to be careful as some of that metal is there to create a vacuum on the fuel, and if you decrease that vacuum the carb won't work correctly.

I have a Holley 4160- 600 (80457-S) and an Edelbrock 650 AVS on the shelf.
George, please let me know if either of these would help you with the Ranchero.
Perhaps I can get them to fit in a flat rate box.

1971 429 2V, 1.33 venturii. I had one on my 1971 Colony Park. Once I found that the only difference in the engine from the 4V was the intake and carb, I went to my local junkyard and got a 4V intake for a 429/460.

Both are electric choke, and both were functioning when they got shelved.

Which is your preference, Holley or Edelbrock?

Let me shoot you an email since we don't have PM's

Re: Autolite 2150 carb

I ended up sending nick out in the freezing cold to pull that 2150, i was , well still am, going to re jet it  I found the problem, i think.  The gasket on the bottom is completely blown out and the whole 1 side is full of carbon.    This kind of sucks in a way.  With the ranchero, just like Brutus, I think i did some stuff backwards.  I rebuilt that carb and gave the engine a tune up before we parked it.  Sitting parked for 5 years, i can understand some stuff going bad.  All my spark plug wires went bad ( dry rot ) I could imagine what i'm going to find inside that carb.

Gary.  I understand now what you are talking about by polishing, makes sense.  I'm going to give it a try, i'm still going to rebuild it, the intake i found isnt in stock until next week and we really really really want to finally drive this thing, after 5 years.  I know it's off topic, but if you had this, wouldn't you want to drive it, LOL.  Merry Christmas yall

Merry Christmas!  I hope Santa presents you with a driveable car once you rebuild that carb!

Jim, do you remember if either of the carbs have the Ford accelerator adaptor?  I'm going to abandon the 2150 and wait to get one of the carbs from you.  the 2150 needs to much, a carb kit, and it uses the expensive one, and new jets.  I can take those bucks and put it toward the new intake.

I'm pretty sure they both have the Ford throttle cable ball stud, if that's what you're asking.
Neither have a transmission kickdown arm, but easily available from Holley or Edelbrock

Spending Christmas with family.  I will email you photos of both when I get back.
