Another What's This, under the hood.

Starliner
Hey All
I'm still chasing down my rough idle issues.
I have said it before, I need to get a FSM.

But what the heck is this orb by the battery for?
It connected to a valve which T-ed off to a tiny vac line inside the cabin.
Thanks again.

That would be your vacuum reserve for when the engine is at low or no vacuum so things like your A/C doors won't start closing and opening because of loss of vacuum.

Without something like that (or the infamous Hi-C can) your climate control will default to defrost when WOT up long grades or similar situations.

The plastic ball is much better than the tin can that rusts on the bottom, and has you pulling your hair out looking for the leak

Oh man don't I know that. It was the ends that had pin holes in it.
I was able to remove the mounting bracket and used fiber glass rosin to coat the can.
Painted it black, put the mounting bracket back on and installed in the truck.
I still need to pick up a check valve that goes between the vacuum supply and the can or as said under low / no vacuum the doors go to defrost.
So people know what the "juice can" look like.
