1981 4x4 transmission mount parts source

delco1946

Title says exactly what I need. I can’t find this anywhere. I ordered the part I thought I need per the LMC catalog along with all other mounts. Mechanic said it’s the wrong type and took a pic of what I needed. Called LMC to inquire and they confirmed that the mount wont fit 80-86 4x4 and that their catalog description needed fixing.

Now I’m stuck with a new mount that is destined for the trash, meanwhile no amount of searching seems to provide other options. Pic is what pops up when you google it, and this is what I already have. However, this is the wrong part. (It might fit a non 4x4 truck IIRC). The correct part should have a horizontal bolt orientation based off my mechanics picture.

So do I have this right the picture in your post is the wrong part.

If so post a picture of what your mount looks like as I haven't seen a transmission mount that bolts on with horizontal bolts for the 4x4 driveline.

Also did you try the Bronco Graveyard.

Search back a page or two for this post called "Crossmember transmission support bushings by BigBrother-84" as this post is the mount system I've seen used on these trucks.

Sorry don't know how to link the post directly.

That is correct, the picture at the top of the form is the wrong part and the only one that comes up when I search. It should look like the picture below, according to my mechanic.

Interesting that JBG has adopted the Bullnose moniker... 🧐

You’re right Jim!
We can even make a search using “Bull Nose” term and get results!

Thanks! So the metal support doesn’t get replaced and the bushing just get swapped out? No wonder it’s been hard finding a replacement.

Appreciate all the help!

Correct. These crossmembers are specific to 1980-1984 4x4 trucks. It was originally hard to find replacements for them because if the replacement bushings are too tall or too short, it can affect your driveline angles.

I can somewhat confirm this is the part OP needs.  I have the same mounting hardware in our 1982 4x4 and I ordered this bushing set.  I emailed BroncoGraveyard and they confirmed the parts were correct.  I ordered them and they've arrived but we have not installed them yet.

Below is a link to images of our setup.

I also have these two images from the Service Manual which are in the Manual Transmission section and not the Auto or in the Transfer Case section.  We spent hours taking turns digging through that thing.
