Woot! Headlight buzzer

BullnoseLuvr
This post was updated on .
Modern cars, and European cars from way back, allow you to leave your headlight switch in the on position all the time.  Not so much in the Bullnose. The one buzzer I needed wasn’t in my base, non-light package truck and I’ve been leaving my lights on. So, I studied up here and elsewhere, bought a 7-pin buzzer, plugged it in and voilá!  No more self-stranding. The original 6-pin is on the left.

Nobody I know has any clue why this matters so much to me. Actually I don’t know either...

I'm with you on this!  I was really happy when I discovered that those modules were available as I'd left the lights on more than once.  Now if I open the door with the lights on it reminds me.

Yes, you're unnecessarily enthusiastic about something most of us unplug at the first opportunity.

But the later chime is MUCH less irritating.

Nonetheless, I'm glad you are happy with the result!

For those interested in a comparison (not my video):

I do find it funny that the guy doing the video, at the beginning, states that he likes the buzzer for the same reason a lot of us have mentioned here before: sentimentality.

Guy on youtube actually reprogrammed one of the buzzers to actually be musical.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ301QEoo9Y

Shame that someone hasnt done this commercially im sure many would rather junk their traditional buzzer/chime for something musical especially if they could custom select the tune.

I was grinning like a fool as soon as I read the title. Didn't expect it to actually sound that good either.
No kidding - I remember buying some hacked up usb connector for my first cell phone to make it have ringtones that sounded worse than that.
I likely wouldn't keep it long (kind of like how using a song as an alarm ruins the song) but it would be fun to have.

And people program computer hard drives to play symphonies!
(Actually my l33t favorite it the imperial march from Star Wars)

Lots of cars now have fake engine noise, not just electric ones.
You can choose what you hear inside, or what is heard outside.
Not the sort of cars that many of us would (or could!) buy, but used Maseratis are relatively cheap these days.

I think the buzzer gets my attention better than the chime.  The chime is a lot less "abrasive" than the buzzer.

As for playing music with it, that's interesting.  But even less abrasive.

Then there's playing music with a computer.  Back when I started with computers, in about 1969, they used true magnetic-core memory, and the current going to the memory would play a tune on a radio nearby.  So there were all sorts of programs that would play different tunes.  But, while the computer was playing music it was doing little else.

Do a quick YouTube search for "floppotron music" and see what you get.

Mine's unplugged because I can't stand the rasp, but I could probably live with the chime.

Re: Woot! Headlight buzzer

I have the original buzzer as well as a dinger that came with my 1990 cab. I plan to relocate the module so that it is easier to replace, so that I can swap them out when I get tired of them.

The best buzzer trucks are the 80-82 trucks. The headlight on buzzer is a separate buzzer, so on trucks equipped with that option, you can actually hear two buzzers. And if one is out of tune, oh man does it get annoying quick.

Chimes are for wimps.  As sure as I have manly hair on my chest by god my Bullnose will have a proper buzzer -- one that makes the unwitting want to pierce their ear drums with scratch awls. And if one is good two out of tune is better, so when I fix my seat belt switch I'll always start my truck before buckling up.

Yep, the guy used an 8-bit version of the song which is what I think made it so much better.

There is a youtube channel I follow they do live 8-bit music via their online radio station.  There are a few that I would like to have as the chime on mine but its been so long since I messed with my truck I dont remember if I have both buzzers or not.  I think I just have the seat belt buzzer as I dont have the light group harness and I had to make my own for the clock I added I remember.  So for me my buzzer only buzzes when the key is turned on for a few seconds then the seat belt light goes out and the buzzer is off.

I get to work 99% of the time when it is still dark out so no way I would forget the head lights were left on.

I only had a buzzer work once, think it was the seatbelt? and thought it was cool but have not heard it since then
I don't plan on pulling the dash apart on my truck just to install buzzers and I would need to track some down to start with.

When I had my dash out for a major re-weld of the sub structure I just plugged everything back in without thinking when re-installed.😵

It didn't take but a minute for me to get at that plug!

There are still two buzzers in the later 1983 - 1986 trucks; they are just combined into one unit.

If I have the key in the ignition (headlights off) and open the door, I hear a buzzer.

If I leave the door open and turn the key forward to the RUN position - and the seatbelt is unbuckled - I also hear a *second* buzzer go off and the FASTEN BELTS light on the dash turns on.

But like Mark said - it is MANLY.  I reminds me of one of those disturbing B-movie horror movies or a low budget 1970s porn flick.

Did not know that, I figured the same buzz went off regardless, and maybe just increased in volume. Good to know!

The buzzer on the '83 up is easy to reach through the top of the glove box.  I don't know about the earlier trucks.
