Even for a reman, that's a good deal on a starter isn't it?

I'd say so.

And you keep your core.
I like to have a starter, master cylinder and alternator laying around, so I don't have to deal with going back for my $.

U-haul definitely wasn't putting junk in their trucks.
Downtime and repair costs mean it's no bargain.

Funny you mention that, it has become a bit of a necessity here as well. Our government changed the tax rules on this sometime in the past couple years. It's not a big deal, but it is annoying on principle if nothing else. If you go in to the parts store and buy something, you pay tax on the full purchase price. When you come back the next day with your core, they will refund the value of the core, but not the tax on that value. The only way to save having to pay that tax is to bring the core in with you when you buy the new item...if it is possible at all.

I have a PMGR starter here for my truck that I will take in with me when the time comes that I need a new starter. I was going to rebuild this one, but screw it, I'll just buy a reman. That is, when my original 36 year old starter ever bites the dust...lol.

What's VAT in your socialist nation, Cory?

Here it's up to each state, and some big cities tack more on top.

6.35% here in CT but none in New Hampshire

Haha, we don't call it VAT, but it varies here as well by province. In NS, it's 15% on everything. This is why I always joke that our healthcare is not free at all...we pay for it, and pay dearly. It doesn't seem like much on little day to day items, but for people buying things like high-end pickups for $60k, they then have to pay $10,000 tax on it. A bit more shock and awe when you see it in the bigger numbers. Of course we're used to it, but it's not a small amount.
