OT How far would you go?

FuzzFace2
Now that the big show is over I want to ask
How far would you go for a "local show" or "cruise in" that happens maybe every year.
I dont mean a show like Gary had just put on as it is a group thing and we all would go if we could.

I ask because the car club I belong to will go about 50 miles, most are 30 miles, out to a show.
A few weeks back 1 of our members, who's father belonged (god bless him) to a club pretty far out, 100 miles 1 way.
That club had a show that the member wanted to attend and asked us members if they also wanted to go.

8 members and 2 friends of the "asker" convoyed (10 of us) to the show.
It was a large show with 220 cars & trucks (not counting cars / trucks that were to new to show on the field) and the money went to local groups that is always nice.
They also had a auction to raise more money, that was a first that I had seen at a show.

The 50/50 was for a child with cancer and came in a little over $630 for the winner who gave it back for a total of $1260. we would all of done the same.

The "asker" did get an award for his "work in progress" truck, unrestored and family own truck I think because who his father was in the club but that was ok with me.
It was nice to be part of the group to help the local groups with money to be in the show.

So how far would or have gone to a show?

Dave,

I have gone 60-70 miles to attend cruise-ins and/or car shows. I would go further and more often if I had somebody to go with. If it was an event, and at least one friend (or my wife lol) would go. These days, I mostly just hit a couple of the local evening cruise-ins, and even then, it's only if somebody that I know is going.

We have a couple good ones that I would like to go to, but they're more like 180-200 miles away, and of course would mean staying overnight. But...they're good shows, with a Friday night being a cruise up and down main street, followed by a show on Saturday and sometimes and evening event like a band, etc. We keep saying that we're going to go, but everybody is always busy and they have all kinds of other things going on in life besides car shows lol.

This post was updated on .
I guess because of the club I belong to is why I hit the local shows & cruise in's but have also gone by my self again local of about 30 to 40 miles 1 way.

Around here most of the going's on are on Saturday's and there could be 2 or more going on on the same day.
As a club we pick a show to go to. It could be a smaller show put on by a small club and we like to give them our money because of that.
There was 1 time the club members split on what show to go to. Half went to one show and the other half to the other show.

The wife is not in to cars and she has her foster adoption thing on Saturday's so she goes to that.
There is 1 evening cruise put on by a small club that is in the next town over from us that has 3 different places to eat at.
One is a Burger place the wife & I like so we hit it for diner then the cruise.
Other members wives also come to this for diner and hang out so they all get to talk to each other.
I dont know if that is good or bad LOL

There is a cruise in this Saturday at the Tobacco Farm Life Museum, 30 miles away held by a small club. Our club is planing to go to but they are talking 70% rain so dont know what will happen.
Some shows are held rain or shine, dont know about this one? and I know some members will not take their cars out if it looks like rain.

2 weekends ago 10 of us went to a show and it did rain hard, show was cut short because of it. I was shocked that 2 of the members had their cars out as I was sure they would have stayed home and not get the cars dirty.

I think (pretty sure on that) why others in the club dont go to far is none have over drive.
That is 1 reason when we convoy we dont go the high way.
They dont like spinning the motor that high! I tell them what was the speed limit when they were built?
Did people not drive on the high way back then? Yes they did so it wont hurt to run it once in awhile to"blow it out"!

I may start "cutting from the pack" and hit some shows a little farther out just to see what is out there.
When you hit the same local shows you see the same cars / trucks and people. Not that that is a bad thing but just like to see some different things.

That is a good bit out there and yes vehicle permitting.

I do have to say this trip was the farthest 1 way, 100 miles, I remember taken the truck in one shot.
I have put 400 miles on in 1 week a few times but that is 40 miles to work and 40 back home with side trips.

I'm a marathon driver but if I was in something like my dad's Austin Healey I wouldn't go more than 30 miles.

I just did one that was 75 miles each way. I'd do that in a heartbeat. 100 miles isn't out of the question. 150 miles might be asking too much.
