Re: Little Blue 82

Well, I drove blue 82 into work today. The boys loved the ride to mamaws house. First time Levi has ever sat in a front seat. He roled the window down all the way and stuck his elbow out like a real man. So proud of him! Little Ray wanted to shift but he couldnt find a gear to save his life...hahaha. making memories.

In elementary school we had a bus driver (Vulture; don't ask) that would let one of us troublemakers shift.
.....probably easier to keep an eye on us!

Can you imagine that now?!?!

I was always the one getting picked on, so yes.

Of course that didn't endear me to my tormenters.
I would just take it until I'd really had enough beatings.
Then I would poke them in the eye and kick their throat (or worse) when they were down.

Yeah... I was the troublemaker.

Re: Little Blue 82

I tell my boys if they get picked on to join in on the picking. Guys haze each other. Its what we do. Learn to laugh at yourself, or everyone will laugh at you. Those who cry about getting picked on usually didnt have a dad that taught them how to take a joke, or how to fight back. I know, because I was that kid too. After I grew up and realized all those "bullies" were just kids being kids, I understood how many opportunities I missed to be their friend.

My biggest enemy in high school was the star center of the basketball team. He was 6'5 230 lbs. I was 6'4 and 165 lbs. After he stuffed me in a dorm cabinet at Transylvania University for a summer basketball camp, I came out swinging and landed a few. Then I challenged him to a dunking contest on the court. After I schooled his @$$ on dunking, he gave me respect. The next year he graduated. Two years later went into the ministry and became a preacher. He came to me one day and apologized for treating me badly. He said when I stood up to him it made him think. Changed his life. We are friends now.

Moral of the story, dont be a snowflake, stand up to a bully, and you can show them what a real man is.

Ray,
I had this discussion with Gary.
You can't imbed it with an android device, because of the Google integration.

You CAN from Apple or Windows.
You need to copy the code from the 'share' dropdown.

Oh well. All I have is Android right now. If anyone wants to embed it properly, be my guest.

.... sorry, I'm only the messenger.

You DON'T use the embed button in the reply window.
Just paste the code string from any non-Android device

Edit: maybe if I used a browser other than Chrome?
Leeme see....

Re: Little Blue 82

Ray Cecil
Ok. Just got back from Tulsa. Got some things knocked out. Now its time to tackle some truck projects.

I need some advice on the clutch in little blue. SROD. I dont know if its just worn out, or the header and tuning have given it enough extra POWA that it just slips the clutch.

Normal driving its fine. As soon as I smash the throttle in 3rd it just spins the clutch. If I try to drop the clutch in 1st, it just spins.

The engine was covered in oil and didnt have a single good gasket, except the rear main thankfully. Is it possible when I degreased the engine that I got some oil on the clutch disc and its ruined? Can it be cleaned? Can I inspect it without removing the transmission?

So, if I have to go new, should I upgrade to an 11" clutch? Any recommendations on brand? Do all the clutch kits listed on Rockauto for an 1982 4.9 manual work for the SROD?

Thanks for the help.

If the original 10" clutch disk is still in there, then yes, I'd upgrade to an 11"clutch. I like LUK and Sachs brands. I bought an LUK kit if I recall correctly. Buy the whole kit with the pressure plate, disk, pilot bearing, and alignment tool. Bought it on Rockauto too. I can check the number if you need to know. Should be the same kit for you truck afaik.

I have a hydraulic clutch, so I can't offer any advice on inspecting the mechanical linkage...but you should probably check it all out.

My '84 Flywheel had the holes for the 11" clutch, but I don't know if they all did. Maybe one of the other guys know?

Re: Little Blue 82

Thanks Cory. The original owner said he replaced the clutch in 2005. So....who knows. I say if its slipping, it needs replacement or upgrading.

Ive already went through the mechanical linkage and replaced a couple items. Its in perfect working order.

Anyone know if this is a weekend job, or longer?
