Well that is interesting, to me at least...but I think this is the first certification label that I've seen with non-metric tire sizes (78-15C tire size). Paint code (3P, 82/84) is the same code as my 84 F150. Mine is faded badly with a chalky finish, so it certainly doesn't look the same. I see 3.50 gears, and those mixed with the small tires would make that 4spd OD more livable. My truck has 3.08 gears and matched with the swapped-in 5spd, it has really long legs. I love it that way, but I don't think I could put any larger tires on it.

And a build date of 06/82 makes this old girl a fairly late '82. June of '82 was the last month that the Flaresides had the real board floors with 7 boards and 6 metal strips. In July of 1982 they changed to the 3pc plywood floors like in my '84 with the 5 metal strips.

1980 to 06/82 Flareside wood floor will look like this one with 7 boards and 6 metal strips:

And then 07/82 to 1987 Flareside wood floor is like this one with 3 pieces of plywood, and 5 metal strips. Metal strips #1, #3, and #5 are just sitting on top of the wood. Strips #2 and #4 are the only ones covering the gaps.

Well, it's kind of cool to have a truck built in the last month that the traditional board floors were installed. Nice that you can make your own boards too. The later plywood floors are interesting in the sense that even Ford experts will try to say that they never existed. Ford was clever in the sense they still made the floors look like they were boards...they fooled a lot of people, including myself. Reamer pointed it out to me when I originally bought my '84...because I thought it had boards, the same as the old 1980 Flareside I had owned back in the 1990's.

Below is a picture of my 1984 bed from the bottom. Original 3pc plywood still intact.

So how many bolts hold the bed on? Do I count 8? Are some of those spacers on the cross members just a spacer? Wouldnt those rattle?

Corey, you have plans to ever make it to Garys truck show in skiatook?

Wouldnt that be cool to take a road trip in two blue flaresides? Im directly on the way to Skiatook from where you are. You could stop in here, do any maintenance or fix any issues on your truck if needed, then we could ride out to Skiatook in both trucks.

10 wooden block spacers, and 8 mounting bolts. They get compressed a bit, so no they don't rattle. My truck does rattle...but it has nothing to do with those wooden blocks...lol.

Well, I would certainly like to go, yes. Whether I can or not (in 2019) is still unknown. My truck is still in a thousand pieces, and it is a really long drive for me...as in 4500 miles round trip. That would be 250 gallons of fuel or more, and probably 3 days driving each way, in a 35 year old truck with no AC, no cruise, and currently not even a radio...lol. I have no problem doing it...I'd actually enjoy it, but having the time to do it may put it out of reach.

I was checking airfare a couple weeks ago, and a round trip ticket was only about $600 bucks...and then maybe I could rent an F150 to drive to Skiatook???>..lol.

We'll see how it goes. Ask me again in June;).

Corey, I knew it would be a haul. I haven't read through your thread completely to see where you are in the process of restoration.

Well, $600 round trip aint bad. I wonder what a round trip to Louisville KY is. Maybe you can hitch a ride with a guy driving a Blue 82....

If we go in September, I will have a chase vehicle, as I cannot visit Skiatook without my wife and kids, we have family just 25 minutes from Gary. We can't all fit in a reg cab. So we would be taking two vehicles.

Gary.....how about a Ford Truck Cruise before the show this year, or after awards? How about a short drive up to Tall Grass Prarie nature reserve and photo ops with the trucks and Buffalo? Might even find a herd of wild mustang...

Re: Little Blue 82

Well, today is the big day. Finally getting back into a Bullnose. Been wanting to for a couple years now after selling my 86 to my uncle. He offered it back to me for $1000, but I really don't know if I want it that bad.

I always wanted a flareside. Actually, the very first time I started noticing the bullnose trucks, I worked in Catoosa Oklahoma, and a co-worker had a green with tan interior Flareside 4x4 4 speed straight six. So, in a round about way, its like the universe finally gave me what I wanted originally. Except this blue one is better, because its blue. I much prefer blue over green. It ought to look good sitting next to the blue/white 69 Chevy Impala....

I'm in a pretty good spot. This winter was all new cab mounts, all new brake lines and calipers, etc, new fuel tank and lines, grind and paint the frame from the cab back, and rebuild the bed. Right now I really just have the bed to do, and then fill and bleed the brakes. I think it's going to keep it's lumpy ugly blotchy and chalky paint finish for 2019. Not a ton of work to do, but I'm in the middle of some home reno work, and I am very busy at work too. Hopefully she'll be on the road sometime in late May.

Before I'd tackle a trip like that I'd need all new door and window gaskets/seals, a radio, and some type of cruise control system. Other than that the truck should be good to go.

No, not really. They're kinda scattered throughout my various threads.

This time last year I was installing my freshly rebuilt 302 and swapping in a 5spd manual.

Visually, the truck isn't going to look any different this year. The paint is still awful and the cab corners that are already full of body fill are starting to bubble a little bit. The paint was touched up a couple times. Overall it's pretty rough looking still, but it is mechanically tip top. Doing it all in stages...making it pretty will be the last step. It needs to run and drive well first.

Great job. Looking great. Little Blue 82 will be that nice too. I do understand the desire for the 302, the sound is just about the best of any v8. They just sound great.

I have to really think about the 302 vs 300 option. Especially since I will have a 302 sitting in the driveway.

Man.....that straight six is TOO cool though....That tall engine, with that long valve cover. Eye CANDY.

Guys - I'll offer my help on how to pull info from scattered threads, from across the whole of the internet, together.  You can take a look at the first post of Dad's Truck Build thread and see how I'm doing it.

Threads or posts on your builds probably won't be as scattered or fragmented as Dad's truck's threads/posts are (I'm sure there are more than 20 different threads), but it is easy to get things fragmented.  And it is hard and time consuming to find all of those things and pull them together again later.  So keeping track as you do it is advisable.

But, if you keep track you have to do that someplace.  And that's where this technique comes in handy.  It is just a Word document saved on my Microsoft One Drive, although it could be on a Google Drive or maybe even Drop Box.  Get the "embed code" and paste it into your post.  Then when you update the Word document it magically gets updated in the post.

The old 5.0 has got to be one of the best sounding small block V8's ever produced. I absolutely love the feel and rumble of mine.

Having said that...I just got rid of a 302 this morning...lol. I'm working on a deal for a couple inline sixes...one a "shot" 300/6, and the other a good 240/6. The plan is to change over the 85 4x4 to an inline 6 engine. I've wanted one for a while, but couldn't never find the deal that I liked.

Guys. Front leveling springs I will order from Rough Country.

Need suggestions on eccentric bushings, anyone have any experience?

Also, RockAuto has this radiator....will it fit the factory core support? According to RockAuto, it should. Just wanted to see if anyone thought otherwise, or saw something not right about it.

Also, I may upgrade the cooling fan to a clutch fan. Gas mileage improvement, and faster warm up in winter. Not to mention less noise. Does the factory fan on this truck have a clutch, or is it direct drive like a lot of old base model non-AC cars?

Don't even suggest electric fans. Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

Okay. Looks like Offenhauser single plane C series is what I am looking for. I have a 600 Edelbrock brand new in box sitting in the garage. So, I need some EFI exhaust manifolds, seeing that hedman headers are for 2WD, and buying the Clifford headers is like getting raped.

I keep seeing 1.7:1 chevy rockers are a common upgrade. That ought to help out breathing without upgrading the cam....

And ignition.....not sure what to do until I see again exactly what ignition is in it. I'd like to drop in an HEI dizzy and go.
