Holley Carb ID/Information

beefman
Hey Folks,

I very randomly post on here, but I read quite a bit.  Long story short, I was given a Holley 4bbl carb tonight (came off our fire department’s old IH tanker truck when we switched to FiTech EFI last year).  I don’t know squat about Holley’s, I barely know enough squat to work on the 2150 that’s on Big Red right now.  While it’s not exactly in the plans for Big Red to get a 4bbl, if I came across an intake it might end up there.  I’ve attached pics of the carb.  The only identification on it are LIST - 1850 - 3, and 2508 below that.  I just want to make sure that I’m identifying the carb correctly as an 1850 and getting the right rebuild kit when I want to do it.  Thanks for all the helpful information I get from y’all!

1850-3 is a later version of the old R-1850 600 cfm, originally used on 1958 Lincoln and Mercury 430 ci engines. The 1850-3 was a hand choke version with a "universal" (read Chevrolet) throttle shaft.

Thanks for the information.  If I’m reading Chevrolet throttle shaft, I would guess there’s some mechanical magic to making it work on an 84 F150 with a C6?  As long as it’s not out of the realm of possibility, I’m fine with tinkering to make it go.

Holley sells all kinds of throttle linkages.
You need one with a Ford throttle ball and a connection for the C6 kickdown rod.

I used to keep a few in stock at Preston, the kickdown lever was the piece you had to have for an automatic transmission Ford.
