Has anyone tried switching the door buzzer to the chime style?

archeman
The door buzzer is not good for me. It seems to have been carefully designed by a team of cruel psychologists with a noise and frequency that resonates the central nervous system and causes great discomfort.

The door jam button spring is also surprisingly & needlessly strong and so you need a firm boot lodged in the door corner to silence it if you're working under the dash.

I hear that the buzzer was replaced with a less mentally damaging chime in later years. Has anyone in this forum tried that replacement procedure and possibly have part numbers that I can use?

Well I’m the opposite, I like the buzzer better than the maddening dong sound of my 92 Bronco.

Good luck.

That's the white one for headlights, right? If you don't want yours i'd gladly pay postage to get it to me . Mine stopped working at some point.

I more want to figure out how that kid did the musical door chime on his volvo, when the keys in the ignition it plays Toto`s Africa.

There are so many songs I could think of having as my buzzer.

You can’t just drop that bomb and not provide some kind of link!

I would love a mod like that.

Currently i have all buzzers disconnected as all of them sound awful to me.

We have similar ones at work... I hear that noise in nightmares. "Beep Beep Beep Beep!"... It's especially bad on weekends where they shut the plant's compressed air off and literally every welding cell in the plant goes into fault due to such... a lot of birds chirping!

Where are these buzzers located?  I would like to have some sort of noise because I DO forget the lights and keys.  I carry a spare door key in my wallet now.

I feel certain it was unplugged at some point.  Access through glovebox?  I didn't see anything when I had dash top out, but I was doing panel vent door rrepair so wasn't looking.

When you open the glovebox it is located near the latch. When you take the dashed off it is tucked under the conduit.

I got the programable buzzers from digikey, looking forward to playing with them!

ok, I figured I didn't see because of the conduit there - I remember it.

Re: Has anyone tried switching the door buzzer to the chime style?

Is there a way to test if the buzzer works or not?
In the 2 years my truck has been on the road I have only heard it buzz once.
I dont know what I did to make it sound?
I just sat in the truck and think? turned on the key, dont remember if it was started or not.
I was shocked it sounded but was kind of cool.
