Gonna sell my drivetrain. What’s it worth?

Littlebeefy
I’m swapping out my currently running engine, tranny and transfer case in my 84 Bronco. My buddy had a plan for my old drivetrain but went a different direction so now I’m thinking I’ll just sell it. What do you think it’s worth?

The engine is a 351W with a Performer intake and a Holley 4bbl. The tranny is the 4sp manual with OD (T170 SMOD I think). The transfer case is the NP208.

Since you'll be selling it locally I'd say the best bet would be to check Craigslist and FB Marketplace to see what the individual components (motor, tranny, tcase) are going for.

Hi Scott,
A comparable 351W sells for around $600 and an NP208 goes for around $250. That is the "sitting on the ground" and "I swear it worked find when I took it out 2 years ago" price.

I can't find any T170s to compare except for one on fleabay for $550, which I'm hesitant to use as a comp. Does anyone even want the 4sp w/OD these days?

I would think that selling it whole with the everything still connected from stem to stern and having seen it running and working would add to the value. What are all of those little parts worth and the piece of mind knowing that it all actually works? I'm thinking that the whole is significantly greater than the sum of it's parts. Is that nuts?

I am not great at pricing stuff like this but I would think that even if it doesn't bump the selling price up, hearing/seeing it run would at the very least help sell it faster.

Just curious - in a situation where the motor, etc is still installed what is the plan after the sale? Do you both pull it all then or does the buyer pay, leave, you pull, and then they come back?

I've only bought motors that are sitting on tires when I pull up so never ran into this situation.

My hope was to take a small deposit from the buyer and pull it afterward, then take the remainder of the balance at pick-up.

I'm pulling it out next month whether it's sold or not.
