Front Brakes Blow-Apart Diagram?

Quarterwave
Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with the front disc brakes on my 85 F150.

I had a mobile mechanic install new rotors, pads and calipers on the truck, but now, just when I slightly depress the brake pedal, there is an audible "clicking" sound.

Also, when I go over bumps, there is a loud rattling noise coming from what seems like the front left wheel area.

If I lightly press the brake pedal when going over bumps, the rattling noise completely stops. When I take my foot off the brake pedal, the noise returns (on smooth road, there is no noise).

After checking the lug nuts and also all of the lift/suspension for loose bolts, all is tight and it was mentioned to me in a Facebook F150 group, that it might be the caliper clips - and that one of them might not have been installed - or not installed correctly.

With that in mind, does anyone have a blow-apart diagram of the front brakes, so that I can pull mine apart and take a look?

NOTE - I have already ordered and received some new clips, so if that is the case, I can put them on (provided that no special tools are required for the installation). Also -  I searched the forum for "brakes" and couldn't find an answer, so I thought I'd post this into the community.

Any help is appreciated in advance.

Thanks!

You might want to check out this thread to see if those symptoms fit yours.

As for illustrations, try Driveline/Brakes.

Funny you mention that thread, I was just working on them today. I changed my left front wheel bearings and seal, and while I was in there installed a front brake hardware kit. I still had some clicking noise afterwards, but I did only do the one side. I still have to stick the anti-rattle clip on the passenger side brake pad.

Thanks everyone.

I took a look at the links provided, and it definitely sounds something similar to what I am experiencing however, I cannot identify the number of the clip in the blow apart diagram (nor in the parts list), so I don't know where it is!

EDIT: I found it - it seems to be part number 2B164 in the single-piston design (well, it matches the part that I bought from the auto store).

Should look like these guys...

I just did my driver's side yesterday. Likely won't get to the passenger side until the weekend now. Hoping it cures my clicking sound.

Yes.  If you click on the Part Numbers tab and scroll down you'll see that 2B164 is listed as Clip (Brake Shoe Anti-Rattle).

The pad clips aren't likely to make a noise loud enough to hear while driving.  I suspect the caliper slide keys aren't assembled or installed correctly.  The curved spring rests on top of the key, with the bolt in one of the arched cutouts.

It's also important to clean & grease EVERY point of metal-to-metal contact in the brakes:
