This drawing shows the mounting of the "bush bar" and the bottom drawing shows the factory "air dam / spoiler". I have one on my truck.

I had a page on Push Bars on the website, but didn't have that illustration, so added it.  And notice that the illustration is for the vans, not the pickups.  But, as shown on my page, they list one for the trucks, although it is a different part number.

As for the spoiler, I should add that to the webpage.  I know that either the '82 or '83 dealer's book tells about a gas mileage option that included the spoiler, so I should reference that as well.

The MPG package trucks were turning in mid-20's.  But they had extremely-tall gearing, no frills, etc.

That's impressive!

I found this a while back when I was reviewing the hyper mileage thread you put together   I got a kick out the gas price presumptions in the estimated fuel costs:

www.afdc.energy.gov/pdfs/1982_feg.pdf

It made me feel a bit better about the mileage I see 36 years later on my 4WD   "creeper" transmission.

It's not scanned in order, but F series on page 9 with Broncos toward the end on page 11.

You can just make out the spoiler in these photos:

Hard to see the spoiler in the 2nd one.  I get distracted by the .... protrusions.

But, the first pic reminds me that I need to contact Jason Hambrick about the show.

That little spoiler can't be doing much given its small size.  But we looked one on a '93 F150 over to see about adapting it to the Bullnose trucks, and discovered it won't work.  The bumper is the wrong shape.

With my "in town" weekly route, which normally returns ~17 mpg, I experimented with and without the spoiler. I recorded ~1/2 mpg better with the spoiler mounted. I believe the percentage would go up @ higher speeds.

That's significant.  And it all adds up.  But I'll bet that the higher the MPG capability of the truck the higher the MPG benefit.  In other words, trucks with a 300 six and tall gears that get in the mid-20's probably see a higher benefit than one with a 460 and low gears.

I take it the spoiler bolts to the bumpers then? Or is it to the bottom of the radiator support?

All the spoiler has to do is cut down the air going under the truck or smooth it out.
All that turbulence under there hurts MPG.
Put a full belly pan under there and see what happens.

The spoiler is attached to the bottom of the bumper. Stock bumpers come with the holes and from the factory, the spoiler is riveted.
