I hope you get it!  And, when you come after it drop down and show it to me.  Plus, bring it back for the show in Sept.  PLEASE!
Oh and September, if I do get the truck.....I will try. I have to save some vacation and roll it over to next year for Holly and I are driving the 69 Impala to the grand canyon..

I am pouring $$ into the Impala right now, just bought a power disc brake conversion kit, Aluminum radiator, Pertronix electronic ignition and coil. Its a 210 hp 327, and I have a 1970 300hp four barrell rochester intake I am going to put on it with a new Rochester before the trip. I'm kicking around the idea of building the 400 small block for it though....I may just run the original 327, and stroke it with the 400 crank. Same bore as a 350, and has the large crank journals...so it should make a 383 stroker I am thinking. That would be a bit more torque than the 327. The car is getting setup to be a cruiser, not a hotrod.

Good plan, Stan!  I'll have to compare notes with Holly as to where she lived in Wichita.  We lived there 6 years and I was born 55 miles southeast.

As for a used vehicle, the next door neighbor has an Avalanche he says he's going to sell.  They bought it new and recently replaced it with a new Tahoe, but haven't sold the Avalanche.  Don't know anything about it, but can ask if you are interested.
She doesn't want an Avalanche. She wants a third row so when she visits down there she can carry all her nieces and nephews around. If we add anymore kids down there, I'll have to get her a passenger van, or an old classic station wagon with three bench seats in it!!

Oh, and Holly was born there, and they moved around a lot before they settled in Broken Arrow...I don't think she lived in Wichita longer than the first two or three years of her life.

The 4" stroke of the 400's crank is what creates the stump-pulling torque.  And that's true in either block.  So you can't go wrong.  And the torque will be significantly better than the 327's.  I doubt there would be much difference in the cost of building any of the engines, so I'd at least go with the 400's crank.

As for the show, please keep it in mind.  I'd like to see you and the family, and Big Blackie would surely take home a trophy.

Well...IF I got the truck...I would certainly come see you when picking it up. IF I could make it in September, and IF it got a trophy, I would mail it DIRECTLY to Luke, because I wouldn't deserve a trophy...it would be Luke's trophy, not mine.

I like that plan, but have a suggestion - let's get Luke to come to the show and accept the trophy himself.

I'm pretty confident it will, and when I get home from church tomorrow night I'm going to watch it.  Should get home around 8:00 and the auction is over at 8:30, so will be interesting.  There is at least one person with automatic bidding turned on, so the last few seconds could be wild.  Bring it on!

I was blown away with the fact that there were no more bids.  Ray Cecil and I both watched the last few minutes and expected fireworks.  It was disappointing.

There was less interest than I was expecting (only 7 unique bidders) but at the same time it sold for more than I could have hoped so I'm happy about that.

Buyer isn't someone I know. Will be another week or so until the sale is actually finalized but I expect it to go through ok.

Please let him know about this forum as well as the show in Sept.  I'd love to have him bring Big Blackie to it.  And, he should join the forum.

I was going to bid more. But my wife found a Tahoe she wanted. So I bought that instead. I spent almost $18k on that Tahoe....I was thinking the whole time.....man I am sorry Big Blackie, you would have looked good in the new garage! I tried to convince her to be happy with Big Blackie. She liked it, but it wasn't practical for driving to Oklahoma and back to see family.

It would have looked good in there, but I'm guessing that Holly needed a Tahoe more than you need a Ford truck.

Yeah....I have too many toys right now as it is. Dad's truck, 69' Impala and 72 Camaro. All three need restoring. When I get a truck, it'll be a bullnose, maybe a stepside.

Luke - Glad you were able to sell it! I just stumbled upon this and the resulting link to the build log. Your photos of the dash/defroster door repair finally laid it out clear for me. I've been having a hard time trying to understand how that door is setup. Now I do! One question - how hard is it to get into the unit to work on the door? Mine was found busted and the shop "did me a favor" by disconnecting it and setting it to floor/defrost so it would pass safety. This was before I registered it as an antique...

I’m not sure Luke will respond quickly as he’s not active on here. But Jonathan posted this info on that door: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/1981-straight-six-manual-4x4-project-tp1312p3556.html

As you can see from my thread and the one Gary linked to, it's not hard to work on the door necessarily assuming you get the whole assembly out of the truck. I removed my entire dash but that may not be necessary, you might be able to pull it from the top just by removing the dash pad. But I'm kind of thinking you'll have to remove the dash. Really it's not that bad when you get into it, a dozen screws maybe. Just remember where everything goes.

The heater vent assembly is also bolted through the firewall to the big plastic box in the engine bay that holds the fan and the AC evaporator. What I found most difficult was getting it unbolted from that, there is one screw on the passenger side on the very bottom that was a real pain to reach and I had to string together several 1/4 extensions on my ratchet and only got it off after many scraped knuckles. Getting it all back together was a similar challenge.

Once you take all this stuff out you might find other things you need to work on, like new seals. So depending on what kind of perfectionist you are, it can turn into a bigger project. But the good news is, once you have everything out on a workbench it is very easy to fix or address any issues.

I did it on Big Blue in situ, and it is a pain.  But, it can be done.
