Flare side & Style side fuel filler door assy.

FuzzFace2
I was installing a rear tank filler door assy. to my Flare Side (FS) and was going to use 1 of the door assy. from my Style Side (SS) parts truck and ran into a little issue.

This was the first issue I found when mixing parts to hook up the front filler pipe and put a stop on the door install. As you can see the mounting screws between the 2 are different along with the plastic box (see last picture).
FS 5-1/8"  SS 3-15/16"

Found the rest out today, the doors are also different sizes
FS 6-1/2"x6-1/4"   SS 6-3/16"x6-3/8

And the shape of the doors are also different
FS flat  SS curved

The whole door, plastic box & filler tube assy.

I did not keep track of what filler tubes went where on the SS and what I had from the FS was a hacked mess.

So, what's the plan, Stan?  Do you have the needed doors?

I asked in another thread if the doors were the same between the styleside and the flareside. The one thing missing from the flareside bed I just bought is the fuel door, so I need to go scrounging for one of those now, and I was curious if they were all the same or not. Looks like not. Thanks Dave.

Stan has it under control  or fakes it real good
My brother sent me a flare side part of the fender & filler assy. when he sent the tail gate.

A little fiber Glass and it is installed.

I have not seen what pipe assy. will work yet but I am sure I can come up with something between the parts I have, style side pipe & hose are the same dia. just different shapes from the flare side parts, and if not a boat shop should have something......I hope.

Sorry to say if you need one to fit the flare side opening it has to be a flare side door & plastic box (for a better name) because the screw hole spacing as posted above are different between them.

Now I was just thinking I wonder what the DRW trucks use for filler doors?
I would guess being fiber glass fenders it would be the flare side doors but then again the fender are bolted to a style side bed so who knows?
If I could figure out how to look up parts on the CD I might be able to tell.
If you measure the bolts or yours before hitting the JY and find a DRW truck and measure it might be the way to go?

See if today's new page helps with that: Exterior/Fuel Filler Doors.

That works .... but I think the flare side / duel wheel should have a "B" at the end of the part number you have in the text.
Or am I reading it wrong?

So in short flare side & duel wheel use the same door & plastic box.

Thanks Gary

Can you post a better picture of the flare side door? That style might just be perfect for the front fuel door on my Centurion. I converted from the 87-97 style to the 80-86 style when I put my quarters on, and I forgot to test fit the older door, and it won't work.

What better picture do you want?
Both of my flare side doors are installed on the fender / truck but once I know what you are looking for picture wise I will see what I can do.

Re: Flare side & Style side fuel filler door assy.

I guess I am wondering what is the spacing between the mounting holes on the Flare side door?

Is the plastic box smaller than the Styleside one?

Your Flare side door looks like it has the 87-97 style hinge, which is what I need for my centurion. I don't have all my fuel doors at school with me right now, which makes it kind of hard to explain my problem.

At some point I'd like to get pics of the different doors, including the later Flareside one, to add to the web page.

I listed them in my first post.
The only measurements I did not get and can is from the door bolts to the other 2 bolts holding the plastic box to the inside of the panels.
I will tell you the holes are a lot larger than the screws so you can adjust the door to fit the opening.

BTW the flare side door is the brown one the silver one style side.

By the way, my new LMC catalog was in the mail yesterday, and I see there are now Bullnose fuel doors available...and I don't remember seeing them in previous catalogs.

The Flareside door is something like $130, and the Styleside door is $50.

Re: Flare side & Style side fuel filler door assy.

FuzzFace2
I was thinking about 2 weeks ago I cleaned up the scrap metal pile and got rid of the style side bed side panel by mistake that had the 2 gas doors openings before I cut the openings from it.

So all I have are the 2 doors and the black plastic boxes the neck pokes thru.
With that said I don't know what pictures other than what I posted above I can get or who is needed.

Gary, what is it you would like me to get pictures of between the doors?
The 2 flare side doors are bolted to the fender as mock up so would et the pictures when I take it all apart for painting.

Welcome to the forum!  You probably missed the email I sent you asking you to go to the New Members Start Here folder, read the guidelines, and then start a new thread in that folder introducing yourself and your truck.

Don't worry, half the people miss that email.  But it is important that you have a chance to read the guidelines as we hold people to them.  So at least assure me that you've read them?

Completely missed...  I apologize.

I’ll read at it, and see how it works to post my question, so maybe some Bullnose Geeks will explain me the fuel door mystery.
