Door card "pockets"

Pete Whitstone
Hi all, my truck lacks any interior storage except behind the seat. My wife rode in it the other day and also noted a lack of cupholders. My 2006 F150 has some cupholders in the door pockets, among other places. My 81 F150 doors are just bare painted metal for the last 6 or 7 inches at the bottom, the door cards don't cover that area. It's a "Ranger" model, which I think is probably bottom of the line (roll up windows, manual locks, etc.).

So I was thinking about creating something similar to my 2006 door cards down there, for more storage and cupholders. But then I came across some photos of an 81 for sale in my area, and it had these:

I can't tell if they are part of the door card or not, I suspect not. Were these standard on some of the higher-up models? Do they have a cupholder incorporated into them? Anyone have some better pictures of them, like from above? I'd rather obtain some of these than to have to create something from scratch.

Thanks!

Yeah, those were standard on the higher trim later years. In my opinion, other than the look, they aren't anything special though and at this point most need new elastic.
If looking for something functional I prefer the hard plastic kind myself. They are available aftermarket and there are some threads on here to beef them up. They would be easier to incorporate cup holders into. Some members have also found a good bench seat  console that might work for your needs.
On my phone or would find some thread links for you. Can later if no one beats me to it.

Must be my driving style!

I'll do some searching around too and see if I can find something on them. Thanks!

I have the elastic door pockets in my F150 (same as in the photo). They are separate from the door card and held in with screws. I see them from time to time at the scrap yard. Really only any good for holding your phone and wallet.

In my Bronco I put in the later hard plastic ones covered in carpet from LMC. These are held in with screws too. They do not look as good but are way more practical. I can stuff a drinks bottle in there.

The Bronco also has a center console between the captains chairs. The cup holders in that are so shallow nothing stays upright! Marginally better than the glove box I guess.

Hope this helps.

You're right about that - most I see in the jy have had the bottom knocked out of them to make them function better.

Lot's of good information, thanks! At least they are available out there. I just didn't know what to call them so didn't know how to search for them. It seems "map pocket" is the term I was looking for.

Why didn't you tell the wife that is why she was along for the ride, to hold your drink

If I want to drink when driving my truck it is in a bottle so it can rest on the seat with my phone.
Now if the wife and I go out to eat she holds my drink.

I glued some radio magnets onto the bottom of some cups.  When I have a drink in a bottle, I place it between my right hip and the seat belt where it comes through the bench seat.  When I have a fast food drink with a lid and a straw, I tighten down the middle seat seatbelt short enough so that it makes a mini seatbelt for the drink.

Mine came with an aftermarket generic tranny tunnel console thingy... but not being screwed down, it does go for a ride if not careful around corners (launched a few full polar pops that way! ).

LMC sells reproduction door pockets. Never bothered with mine, partially to keep it stock (I'm cheap), and partially to discourage my wife from hoarding even more napkins than she already does.
