Another Mistery Part

Socnarftrucks
Does anyone know what this is??Changed the transmission fluid and filter on my 86 with a AOD and a 302. Of course I made a mess and found this part in the drain pan… I have no idea if it was already there or fell from the inside of the transmission. This is killing me and I’m affraid to ruin my tranny. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe that is a shipping plug that is in the dipstick tube from assembly.

Looks like no one has had the tranny oil pan off or left it in there.

Others should confirm this.

I'll confirm Dane's assessment.
That is a plug from when the transmission was manufactured.
When the vehicle is assembled on the line the dipstick tube pushes it into the pan.

absolutely. if you find that then the pan has most likely never been off before now.

Just a side note: The odometer in this truck reads 28674 miles. I thought it might have rolled over but after looking at the brake and accelerator pedals, the wearing is minimal. So the transmission was likely never serviced.
