I notice it says the 8.25" 130A alternator was used on '95-'97 7.5's.

What year is your engine Gary?
You said that only the pulleys from the giving truck would fit.
And yet, you're using the 7" 3G I sent you?
(Because, that's what I understood would fit Huck's engine)

I don't think it is an "engine" thing as much as it is a "front dress" thing.  Big Blue's new engine is sporting the HD water pump and the front dress from the F450 you sent me, which was a '95 IIRC.  And the alternator you sent me, which is indeed a 7" unit, is a perfect fit.

I know when Scotty was figuring out what gaskets and water pump to send he asked several times if I had the later serpentine/polygroove setup as there are supposedly differences in the water pump.  But the only difference I've noted is that the flange on the water pump has a larger diameter bolt pattern - which means I have to buy a new fan clutch.

The brackets between Huck and the F450 were the same, both for the alternator/smoke grinder and the A/C compressor/power steering pump.  Oh, and the alternator "arm" which it clamps to.  I checked them over very thoroughly to make sure they were all the same and the ID #'s even matched.  So that tells me that the new info isn't correct.  Right?

But, what are you saying about pulleys?  I didn't understand that bit.

I thought you said that only the 450 water pump pulley fit over the shaft?

I also question some of the other new info.
3.0 Cologne engines took the 7"
And the 3.8 took the larger 8.25"
(at least during the early '90 years where I go looking for them)

Ahhh!  I see what you meant.  I thought we were talking about alternators.  But you are right, the F450's water pump pulley fits on that pump and Huck's pulley doesn't.  The difference is the shaft size and the hole spacing.  But otherwise the pulleys are the same size.

As for the other info, we can upgrade the info.  I copied the text instead of a pic of the text, so it is easily edited.  Given that, if you figure out what the text should say then I can edit it.

Gary, Jim, the water pump went through several changes, one was due to the addition of the "grenade" cooler the other was to correct a problem with the EFI engines caused by the polygroove belt system, shearing the shaft off. 1985-1989 (1985 was the oldest I checked) took an E5TZ-C pump. 1990-1992 F1TZ-A, 1993 (probably a mid 1992 change) F2TZ-A, 1994-1997 F4TZ-B.

Further information:
Hub height through 1991 5.570", 1992-97 5.620" (I assume for the thicker pulley)
Bolt circle on the later pumps is 2.125" FWIW, my 1986 spec fan clutch fits either pump, but the older pump has a smaller shaft OD and really should have a sleeve in the fan clutch hub.

Pulley for later pump is: F2UA-CA stamped on pulley front face.

Lower hose inlet fitting: 1985-1989 is 2" OD, 1990-1997 is 1.79" in order to use a later pump on an earlier engine or to eliminate the grenade, I have seen people use a 351 lower hose. I will be using the older hose and a bushing from NAPA, number 902, 2" ID to 1 3/4" ID which seems to fit well. I will probably glue the bushing less it's original flange to the inside of the lower hose.

Good info, Bill.  Thanks.  I can use that when the time comes.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

I have the bell bottom hose but never had the oil cooler (although this truck has the tow package and super cooling options)

I've never seen a water pump shaft sheared but I have seen an impeller sheared off in a frozen engine.

And didn't some early car 385's have a shorter (or was it longer?) pump itself?
Maybe there were some that didn't have a clutch?
I'm too you've young to have seen these, but my dad did have a 429 Tbird.

There is a short shaft version that I believe was on the T-birds.

Ordered everything but the power wire and eyelet connectors today.  Went with a new Bosch AL7534N(7771 series) since they have a lifetime warranty and no core charge.

Ok, so you're going to have to put a 3/8-16 Helicoil in that 10mm hole, like Gary just did with the alternator I sent him for Big Blue.

Well, not if he has three hands: one to use the pry bar; one for the ratchet on the bolt; one for the Wrench on the nut.
