Adding 2nd coolant temp port in 5.0 intake manifold

Rembrant
Gents,

I assume the answer to this question is yes, but I wanted to check before I start drilling holes in stuff...lol.

I have this Edelbrock Performer 289 intake manifold on my 1984 5.0, and there is a boss in the aluminum next to the hole for the heater core hose fitting. Can I drill and tap this? I assume that is why the boss is there in the first place?

Yes you can, that is what that point is for.  It is where I will be drilling and tapping for the sniper temp sensor on my performer intake for my truck.

I really wanted a more performance based intake but the performer is the only one with the dedicated location for drilling and tapping.  The extra meat there helps to stabilize it.

I also bought off ebay a drill bit/tap set for the sniper sensor so I can drill mine before paint and installation.

The sniper temp sensor is a 3/8" NPT so you will need a 3/8" NPT tap and you will need a 37/64" drill bit for use in conjunction with the 3/8" NPT tap.

I bought my paired set off amazon its a Drill America brand that came with the tap and the drill bit.

What you do dont use a 1/2" NPT it will require a reducer bushing and you will want the best reading you can get of your temperature and best reading is having the nub of the sensor actually in the coolant flow.
