86 F250 7.5l Factory AC Repair

Bullnose Gator
My truck had the AC hoses and compressor removed before I got it.  The blower still works.  Let's assume I'm in a fantasy world where everything that they didn't remove still works, do I need anything besides the missing hoses and new compressor to get it running? I've looked at the documentation/illustrations here and that's all I can tell is missing.  Thanks.

Also, there is an 84 XL parts truck in my area that i'm going to scavenge tomorrow (see below).  He claims the AC was good.  Can I use the hoses, etc on my truck?

I would say yes you should be able to use them. I would replace the receiver/dryer (tank in front of the underhood case) as it is probably bad from exposure to the air. The orifice tube is also suspect so change it. I converted Darth to R134a back when it was first being done (second conversion, first was our 1990 Lincoln Town Car). Even with the smaller compressor (6ci vs 10) and R12 condenser, it still cooled the crew cab adequately.

Thanks. From what I've found in forums here, it seems the r134 conversion entails a new/flushed compressor and flushing/vacuuming the system (although I'll need to read up further on how to flush/vacuum). Am I oversimplifying that?

When I bought the 86 I used to own the compressor and brackets were gone.

Rounded up what I needed cleaned the hoses out with isopropyl alcohol mixed with water, probably 70% alcohol and 30% water and blew the crud out with compressed air. I also put iso/water and blew through the condenser and evaporator.

New compressor and orifice tube and receiver/dryer as Bill mentioned, all new o-rings and put vacuum on for an hour and serviced with R134.

It was still working great when I sold it, 2-3 years later.
