I can look at my stuff and see if I still have a spare 1986 5.0L box, it will be from an AOD truck W/4WD, but shouldn't be an issue.

I have one from a 1993 3.0L SHO, I for some reason don't think it'd work too well for this. ;)

I considered it, but didn't want to throw parts at it either.  Breakout box will be here tomorrow so now I just have to wait for the next rain so I can do some more diagnostics.  I also picked up a noid light so I can check to see if the injectors are firing or not.

Noid light.  That was a new term to me, so I Googled it.  Turns out Amazon has a one.  But, does Ford port-injection use the Bosch injectors?

It was new to me as well.  They make them for Ford injectors as well. The one I purchased is listed for "most" EEC-IV TBI systems.  I figured for $10 it was worth a shot.  I have not tried it yet.

check for gas in the engine oil, Ripped diaphragm in fuel pressure regulator and "do" this.
ripped "d" can lead to pumps running, yet low pressure to the rail and most getting back to the tank via return line, but some ends up in the oil via cylinders leaking.

FWIW, Ford injectors probably are Bosch, they do use the Bosch connector as do Chrysler's older ones.

This should be a consistent issue though right?  Not dependent on rain/moisture.

Go figure, after the breakout box gets here the rain stops. So.... We wait.  I might try to take some rain this weekend, but we'll see.

Yes, gas in the oil should not have anything to do with rain.

Maybe you can "make" rain by spraying the truck?

Sorry I never closed out this issue.  I never could find a specific cause.  Then I replaced the windshield and the issue has never returned.  Water leak around the windshield was the apparent cause of the no start.
