1985 Bronco 302 EFI Throttle Cable

Vanilla Gorilla
In need of some help.  New member here, and hoping to get some info.  My throttle cable is broken and I cannot seem to get a correct length on a replacement.  When I go to any site that sells these cables, it shows 3 lengths available and the one that is commonly shown as the length I need is way longer than what I currently have in place now.  The cable is still installed on the Bronco and works, however up at the throttle, the plastic sleeve has broken causing "slack" in the length of the cable.  my existing cable (appears to be original) is much shorter than the 42.5" length suggested as the replacement.  Anyone replaced their cable on their 1985 Ford Bronco with an EFI 302?  If so, what length cable and how was it run from the firewall to the throttle?  If I were to buy and install the 42.5" long cable, I have no clue where the extra length would need to be run in the engine compartment.  The 23" seems too short, but again, I do not know from point to point you measure from in the first place.  Maybe mine is not original and the wrong one was installed over 20 years ago.  My Bronco sat in a field for over 20 years before i saved it and brought it back to life, so it very well may be possible that between 1985 and 2001 it could have been replaced.

Thanks in Advance!

Welcome!

The throttle cable on my 460 is 23" long.
There's not much to it....

I'm not sure what the EFI 5.0 uses, but I bet it isn't this.

It looks like 42ish inches is correct for an '85 EFI with automatic. (You have automatic???)

Anyway this is the correct part # according to Ford.

Yes It is automatic (AOD)  I see that the 42.5 inch is the one that should be correct as well, just no clue how or where that length of cable would run.  Im guessing at this point, I will just have to completely remove mine, and then measure it and go from there, or hope that someone in this group has asimilar set up Bronco and can provide a length cable they replaced theirs with as well as a photo showing the way it is routed.

Thanks again for the input!

As I recall the throttle cable made a big loop (up?) on these engines.
I never had one so perhaps someone who does can explain it and maybe even post a picture for you?

I do think that's the correct number for your Bronco.

Follow up to my ask.  I purchased the 42-1/2" cable and it is in fact the correct one for my year, and engine/trans set up.  Super easy to install.  Quaility is not as "stout" as the one I removed, so I can only assume the broken one I removed was in fact an original Ford part, that  aside, everyting is in its correct place and installation was a breeze.  Start to finish was no more than 15 minutes at most, and that was with time to compare new to old thoroughly before I continued with the replacement.

Glad you got the routing figured out and the R&R went smoothly.

Sorry I didn't have an illustration for you.
